Arbella insurance is an independent insurance company founded on the roots of the Kemper Insurance Group. The company sells policies for personal casualty and liability as well as business insurance, but Arbella only serves a small customer area.

As Kemper was withdrawing from the Massachusetts auto insurance market, in 1988, state legislation had to be passed, and those changes opened the way for Arbella to begin operations. Operated as an independent agent, Arbella's growth was inhibited until 2008 when an old law allowing the state of Massachusetts to artificially set auto insurance rates was removed. Because of the independent nature of Arbella, being allowed to offer competitive rates instead of fixed rates because it encouraged competition between insurers.

Arbella Insurance Provides auto, home and other personal insurance policies in Massachusetts, where the company was founded, and Connecticut. Additionally, it sells business insurance in two other states, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.

As an independent agent, Arbella offers policies from multiple insurance companies. To do that, the company offers comparison quotes from the best offers their insurers can offer. It is this "shopping for the customer" way of doing business that became possible in Massachusetts in 2008, and has become a major influence on Internet insurance companies, including this website.

The A.M. Best ratings company shows that Arbella Insurance has an A- rating, which is 3 steps removed from the topmost grade. As a highly rated insurer, Arbella seems to be a solid company on sound financial ground. To the consumer, this means that Arbella is stable and a possible source of good coverage. However, since the rating is several grades below the top, A++ rating, you may have better results with a different independent insurer. As a rule, the better the grade from A.M. Best, the more dependable the company.
