MetLife is a worldwide provider of life and health insurance policies. They are rated as "a-" by the A.M. Best financial ratings company with an "aa-" grade for the long term outlook. This places the company as financially stable but shows some underlying problems which have beset the company in recent years. But as good as these ratings may seem to be, the consumer reviews written on the company show a different story.
Read our MetLife reviews.
There are many sources where MetLife reviews have a large number of complaints, and provide the company with a relatively low customer satisfaction rating. One review company listed an overall rating of 2.1 out of a possible score of 5, indicating that fewer than 50% of customers are happy with the service they have received. Reviews which garnered the lowest scores inevitably pertained to the speed, or lack thereof, of the company's claim settlement process.
Among the most common complaints about MetLife are delayed settlements on claims, claims denials, and unexpected rate increases. Of these, delaying claims is the most common, and contributes a great deal towards the lower consumer review score. Other complaints include being canceled after a single claim, and failure to follow through on promised premium reductions.
Keep in mind that not all reviews for MetLife are negative. Some reviews state the company is an excellent insurer, while others report prompt settlements and satisfactory customer service. By and large, it would be prudent to give MetLife a closer look before purchasing a policy from them, but the company's financial standing may still outweigh the possibility of slower than expected claims settlement.
