AARP does offer group health insurance coverage in Virginia. The Virginia State Corporation Commission lists all insurance companies that provide coverage within the state. In addition to being able to obtain health care for healthy individuals there is also coverage available for individuals with pre-existing ailments. The federal government established a new health care law which provides PCIP's which stands for pre-existing condition insurance plans. In addition to the PCIP's the new health insurance laws prohibit individuals from being denied coverage due to pre-existing conditions. AARP does mostly only provide health insurance plans to individuals over 65 years of age. They do allow United Health Care to utilize their company name and marketing. People under the age of 65 can reach out to United Health Care for plans and pricing. United Health Care also sells Medicare advantage plans and Medigap policies. These plans and policies both are part of the AARP insurance company. Insurance company brokers as well as customer service representatives at AARP should be able to set you up with the best plan for you and your wife.
