Where other insurance companies accept military employees, USAA only insures people who belong to the United States Military. They are listed in the Forbes 500 at 189 for revenue and 78th for total assets. The company has more than 113 billion dollars in assets and has written insurance policies totaling more than 9.1 billion dollars in 2006.

Bad claims adjuster, March, 2017
MAD AS HELL AT USAA INSURANCE COMPANY. SO I WAS OUT OF TOWN 03/16/17 TO 03/20/17 AND ON MY RETURN I COME HOME TO MY PLACE AND FIND IT HAD BEEN BURGLARIZED. I CALLED THE POLICE AND REPORTED IT AND WENT ONLINE TO USAA TO REPORT IT. THE NEXT DAY USAA CALLED LLOYD WELCH AND EXPLAINED MY COVERAGES AND TOLD ME TO MAKE A LIST OF ITEMS STOLEN AND I DID. THE NEXT DAY HE EMAILED ME AND SAID GIVE HIM 5 TO 7 BUSINESS DAYS TO WORK ON MY CLAIM, SO I AGREED. A DAY LATER A INVESTIGATOR CALLS ME ABOUT MY CLAIM. HE ASKED MY ABOUT MY THINGS WHICH ALL OF YOU KNOW I HAVE STUFF. AFTER I EXPLAINED EVERYTHING TO HIM HE SAID THEY WOULD GET BACK WITH ME. HOW ABOUT 8 DAYS AND NO ONE FROM USAA CONTACTED ME ABOUT MY CLAIM. THEN WHEN I DID GET SOMEONE TO CONTACT ME THEY EXPLAIN THAT MY CLAIM WAS UNDER INVESTIGATION. INVESTIGATION MY A**, THEM ASSUME AFRICAN AMERICA MEN CAN'T HAVE THINGS PARTICULARLY MONEY WHICH I THANK GOD I NEVER REALLY BEEN WITHOUT IN MY LIFE. I'M UPSET WITH THE LAST PERSON AT USAA A MS. KEARSTEN STABINS THAT TOLD TO GET HER A POLICE REPORT AND SHE WOULD GET TO IT WHEN SHE COULD AND STATED SHE HAS OTHER THINGS MORE IMPORTANT. DO NOT LET COMPANIES YOU SPEND YOUR MONEY WITH TREAT YOU LIKE THIS. NOW MY NEXT STEP IS TO ALLOW MY ATTORNEYS TO DO THEIR JOB. TOTALLY UN-PROFESSIONAL SERVICE I RECEIVED.
Horrible claim experience, September, 2015
I had heard nothing but great things about USAA. However, my experience has been anything but great. I filed a claim on my renter's insurance on Saturday, August 22 of this year. Since then I have had to talk to seven different people, have been given conflicting information by different representatives, have had to answer the same questions twice and was expected to answer then a third time, was given an extension in a voicemail left on my phone by a manager which was invalid and have had a difficult time getting any updates on my claim. In a three day period I tried calling the adjuster handling my claim four times and left a message each time requesting a call back. I never received a call back from her. I spoke to a second manager and voiced my displeasure with my experience with USAA. She assured me that my claim would be given priority. Yesterday, I called the adjuster for the fifth time and of course got her voicemail. So, once again, I left a voicemail and got no response. Today, three weeks after the incident, I received a call back from the adjuster. During the call she stated that I had been given some incorrect information about my policy. At this point I was again starting to get upset because once again I had received misinformation. I then began to tell her how I was extremely unhappy with my whole experience with USAA. She told me that when she spoke to me previously she had given me some information about my claim. I told her that she had not spoken to me before and that I had called her repeatedly and never got a response. She began to argue with me and insisted that she had. When I told her in a raised voice that she had not, she told me that I was being rude and disconnected the call. Needless to say, once this nightmare is over, I will no longer do business with USAA and will never recommend this company to anybody.

The company is, considering all things, very good; however I lease vehicles and USAA will only use substandard parts for vehicle repairs. This would present an additional problem for me if I ever had an accident in one of these vehicles.

Great service, great perks. I'm never leaving.....unless the rates go up. The prices have not been beaten and I've kept an eye out for the past 10yrs. Dividend checks around Christmas aren't bad either.
Very satisfied with this company and the customer service and will ccontinue business with them

We have been with USAA for over 11 years and they have not steered us wrong, every time we filed a claim we received help immediately, I could not be more happy and will continue to stay with USAA

Switching from Home owners insurance to Renters insurance and USAA does not cover coastal counties in Texas at this time.

Back and forth with five different agents who don't know what they are doing, it's like they are copy and pasting from a manual. Stick to a local insurance agent that you can acutally talk to directly

Quick and Painless Fire Claim, August, 2016
We had an electrical fire and USAA is our carrier. Everything has been seamless - they had ServiceMaster at our home within 48 hours, and everything was taken care of promptly and with great customer service. I even called them to get a claim check processed and they did it the same day! I never thought I would actually LIKE and APPRECIATE an insurance company, but USAA is and has been amazing!! Worth every penny.
