Worst insurance ever, September, 2018
Our vehicle was totaled due to flooding recently. Our complaint is that our insurance company didn’t do a fair job appraising our vehicle. The cars they picked for comparison are not comparable to our vehicle. Two of them showed accident and damage in their Carfax report while our car had no previous accidents or damages.
Also when appraising our car they marked the condition as average while our car was in excellent condition since we only used it to commute to work. Also when we reported the incident to them, it took them three days to find and tow the car to a safe place, our vehicle was AMG package they don’t even know what’s the differences are between regular package and AMG, the adjuster kept asking me what’s the difference. After I explained to him he sent me the revised one but still it was very low compare with the market value. They missed to consider some options at the beginning.
Very rude, horrible service, November, 2018
My car was hit and unfortunately state auto was the guys coverage. HORRIBLE and uneducated appraiser. Anything to save a dollar. My vehicle was struck in the rear end by an f350 and started to make loud humming noise, once body damage was fixed i drove the car and it still made noise. After arguing with Mark about the noises from the rear end he continued to get defensive and claim because my car is three years old it has reason for rear end parts to fail. Normal wear and tear he claims. Anyways the shop is telling me and the agent what's wrong and they are denying coverage, so lucky me I have to cover the damages myself because of a horrible appraiser that rules my car out of the loop and denies coverage on what he claims is normal wear. However my 2015 vehicle made 0 noises prior to being hit and now it makes loud humming noise constantly and essentially they are blaming me somehow and trying to find anyway out of paying for the repair that WAS from the accident. So I decide to reach out to somebody else then Mark. He is supposedly in charge of Mark and he goes by the name Mike Jorgensen. Let me just tell you save your time before talking to this rude man who will insist you are wrong and mark is right (obviously they talk prior to me getting in touch) he's not even worthy of a conversation, and finally I ask for HIS boss and he refuses to give me the phone number and says he will contact him and then have him contact me. He was actually making stuff up to save his ass and very rude. I wonder what he will fabricate before I can speak to him...moral of the story is do NOT get state auto insurance coverage unless you want a headache and do not care about your vehicles coverage. Absolutely disappointed and would give a - rating if I could. You cannot win with them and your argument is invalid no matter what! STAY AWAY FROM STATE AUTO!
Created policy without consent, October, 2018
They created a policy without my approval or consent just based on a quote request. They are now making me jump through hoops to cancel the “policy” based on “non-payment”. I NEVER signed a single page or gave verbal consent for them to start this policy. So glad I went with another well known agency that I have dealt with before.

HAD ACCIDENT WITH A STATE AUTO INSURED IN APRIL THIS IS NOVEMBER AND THEY WILL NOT TALK TO ME OR WILL NOT CALL ME BACK. WHEN YOU DO GET TO TALK TO SOMEBODY THE WILL CALL YOU BACK .IT HAS BEEN FOUR WEEKS ,I WAS TOLD I WILL CALL YOU BACK. YOU WANT TO TALK WHEN YOU WANT MONEY,BUT WHEN YOU HAVE TO PAY A CLAIM YOU DO'NT KNOW ANY BODY. THANKS A LOT STATE AUTO.

Excellent company until you want to talked to them. They will only talk to an agent. They are more than willing to raise their rates.

My mom has had this insurance company for as long as I can remember. She has car and camper insurance.. My mom is 76 years old but loves to camp with grand kids.. She goes until Oct....winterizes camper , and comes back in spring to open it up.. Sometime over the winter,there was a storm in which a tree limb broke off a tree and smashed awning and put two nice size holes in roof... I tried to patch holes temporarily to stop some damage..... My mom submitted it....State auto came out and took pictures ..A week went buy and they sent out a paper denying the claim....Quote from Bonnie Lynd ....claims ,Do to poor caulking job,we are denying claim.... How stupid is that !!!! still at this time we are fighting.....Well half to bring in the lawyers now......DONT GET INSURANCE THROUGH THESE PEOPLE .......

WE HAS CLAIM IN THE FIRST YEAR WITH THIS CO.iT WAS HANDLED SPEEDILY WITH NO PROBLEMS...THE ADJUSTER WAS ANOTHER STORY...BUT THE CO. WAS GREAT.

Worst Insurance Co. Everything was good until I filed a homeowners claim. It was denied!! Just when you need them they leave you hanging. I was insuring two houses, two cars and two boats. I moved everything.

Avoid, too much fine print designed to screw you, January, 2019
I just completed 6 months with State Auto. What a dishonest company! First I was promised a discount it I sign up for their Safety 360 program. Their literature stated that you could use a smart phone app or an OBD device. I elected to use the device in my car and the app in my wifes car as she already has a device in the OBD port. I then received two devices. I contacted them to state that I needed to return the one device as I couldn't use it in my wife's car and they told me that disqualified me for the discount and then sent me a document, that I had never seen beforn, showing that they don't have the app available yet and may have it some time in the future. If that is the case then why did they state that you could have either? After my dissatisfaction with that issue, and some issues where they drafted the money from my checking account earlier that stated, I sent them an email that I intended to cancel the policy and did obtain a replacement policy with Progressive, who do have both the device and app. State auto refused to accept my cancellation due to the fact that I had not hand written a cancellation letter and snail mailed it to them. They are now demanding one moth ploicy even after I had replaced the policy. this is a borderline criminal organization. More fine pint and conditions than a mafiaoso.

I moved from SD to IL and close to my home. At Dempsster location in Skokie; very well professional enviornment to help the customer and satisfied my needs to update my policy.
Heeyoung Kim and all other staff were very friendly and very helpful. I always recommend to my friends and family to have service from State Farm at Dempster Skokie,IL location. I am always happy with State Farm.

I can rarely get agent on phone, likes to only use email. Jacked up cost to twice as much as mynew insurance. To top itoff they are still sending mebillseven after i fired them
