    Great policy at a great price, September, 2018

    $500,000 policy for 30 years at $65/month (at standard non-tobacco). I can't complain about that. The best part about it? At the end of 30 years, instead of the policy renewing for some obscene amount, I get to keep my premiums the same and the coverage decreases based on my age and the amount of coverage my premium will pay for. The policy is called the Custom Choice UL. It's a term product but on a UL chassis. The premiums do NOT change and are level even after your term ends. They only go up when your premium will not pay for $10,000 worth of coverage. Most people are well into their 80s/90s by that point. Protective has great conversion options. You can convert your policy at any point during your term and you can choose from ANY of their permanent products. I have not converted yet but, depending on circumstances, I may in the next few years. Your agent plays a major role when filing a claim. If you are having trouble with a claim, make sure you are in touch with your agent. My agent goes above and beyond for me and my wife and routinely checks on us--not trying to get more business, I believe he genuinely cares and wants to see how we are doing. Anyways, I highly recommend Protective Life!

    Good at taking your money, not so good at paying, January, 2018

    I paid premiums to this company for seven years, never missing or being late the entire time. My wife passed away on 12-15-2017. I contacted them that same day. Because I could not produce a copy of the policy, I was told I could not submit the claim on line and had to do so via mail. I mailed the complete application, including all requested documents on 12-21-2017. I was told that if the documents were in order, and the payment was approved, it would be paid in 7 - 10 business days. I heard nothing by Jan. 2, 2018 so I called. I was told the documents were received and everything seemed in order, and that if approved I could expect payment by 1-10-18 (20 calendar days after mailing).

    On 1-8-18 I receive an email that the W9 I completed did not contain my social security number so the claim cannot be processed, even though my correct social security number was included on the application. I completed another W9 and sent it in that evening. I have communicated with three representatives of Protective Life Insurance (including a supervisor) who all say the same thing. Your claim will be paid 7 - 10 working days from approval of documents, and because the social security number was not repeated on the W9 that the 7 -10 business day delay starts over. Unbelievable that it took 18 days for this company to "notice" that the social security number was only listed once instead of twice, and that the only recourse is for a new form to be submitted and their "7 - 10 business days" counter to be started over. It appears that delaying payment, and quoting "standard" delays, is a common tactic used by this company to hold onto the money as long as possible.

    Great product options/prices, August, 2015

    Purchased ($250K) "term life" that will expire in less than 2 years (07/2017) and continuation of policy amount($535.00 annually) would balloon to $570.00 per month...unaffordable on a retirement salary!

    insurance was the best at time of purchase, March, 2016

    Insurance was very affordable the best at time of purchase, but is too expensive for customers of my age insurance need to always be affordable.

    cost, October, 2015

    Policy is too expensive. I have been trying to find a lower cost policy and cancel my higher one. Everything with Protective has been great except I find I can't manage the higher premium.
