Coverage is really poor, May, 2017
Optima was the only one offerd by my employer after the ACA TAX AKA OBOMA Care. We had awesome insurance only to be told that now Optima was all they could find that was affordable for the company and employees. The old saying "You get what you pay for." Doesn't even apply. I pay a ton and get nothing. I had two outpatient surgeries and two ER visits two years ago. I have never filed a big claim like these except once in the 1990's. Long and short of it I ended up with the majority of the bills but have been told I have the best policy they offer. I ended up with nothing from the bills going to my deductible and ended up paying above and beyond the deductible. Very disappointed want Blue Cross Blue Shield back.
Terrible service, January, 2018
The telephone service is an utter shambles. After calling several times in several days, and being shunted back and forth between different people, I still have not been able to get medication pre-authorizations. I get the impression that there business model is simply to deny everything and hope that people go away. Shameful!
Still Waiting for Preauthorization 2 Weeks Later, January, 2019
I have been waiting for preauthorization for my daughter's Dexcom G4 sensors since January 3rd. Optima has repeatedly claimed that they are not receiving the faxes that Edgepark Medical is sending, despite repeated confirmation of the number. Now we are still waiting, and no one will fix the problem. This is not a new piece of equipment for us, just a renewal, and our insurance has not changed. I need help!!!!
Poor coverage, March, 2018
Be prepared to spend a lot of out-of-pocket costs for this insurance.... especially for any lab tests or anything other than a primary care visit. Unlike my previous insurance, nothing is really discounted for having insurance with Optima. In fact, because I filed a walk-in clinic visit with this insurance, I ended up paying 2x as much as if I had paid cash. Also, whoever is in charge of their billing system is incompetent. I've had to call several times to get confirmation that my premiums have been received and applied towards my account. I did not have any other option for insurance this year, otherwise this would have been my last choice. The insurance market needs a serious overhaul.
Customer service is awful, March, 2018
Trying to get pre authorization for medications is a joke. I have been trying for 3 days to get this done. I get shuffled between operators. Multiple calls between docs office and insurance company. Overall this insurance company by far is the worst.
