worst ever, December, 2016
stay away from this company and any agency that sells it,worst people in the world to do business with and they will not pay for loss, every aspect was piss poor handling, you might have to pay more but you will be better off if you need it,from the agency to the company is nothing but piss poor service,we are terminating all business policies with these scum bags asap,do not give them a chance to screw you,
You get what you pay for. , June, 2017
I was just sued because NYCM denied a claim even though I admitted fault and the police report had me at fault. I had all 3 of my personal vehicles, my house and my company with 6 company vehicles covered through NYCM. I am now happily covered through Progressive
Beware, February, 2017
Worse insurance company ever, do not recommend anyone use them, when it comes down to a claim they do not cover anything!
Stressful Experience , October, 2017
My father had NYCM insurance, so I thought it would be easier to establish a policy with them in my name after he passed away and I inherited his home. If I had know what the experience would be like I would have gone with another company. I’ve already issued complaints to BBB and NYS Attorneys General, but long story short after 3 years of dealing with them they’ve canceled my policy due to a list of “issues” with the house, which includes having a cement mixer stored in the backyard yard (where else am I supposed to store it? And why after 3 years, is it just now a problem?). I’ll gladly pay more for better customer service somewhere else
Terrible, October, 2017
NYCM decided that their Customer was only 80% at fault even after customer said they were at fault and cops said they were at fault. So they would only pay 80% of claim and I have sue their Customer for rest.
NYCM Insurance, not recommended., July, 2017
NYCM premiums are increasing 6.2% to 10% every year, even when dwelling value is increased only by 1.43%.
Every year it is like a déjà vu, I need to call and argue. My home value is already overpriced by insurance company just to keep premium high. (Home value should not include land)
Also the “Personal Property” (furniture, TV, Radio, Clothing, itd) are kept artificially high, 70% of dwelling value.
Never hear from anyone that they own $200,000 in personal property in house valued $286,000K.
I think, it is outrageous practice, not ethical and mathematically the increases in premium versa increase in value makes no sense.
Buyer Beware, June, 2017
Let me begin by stating that I'm a 35 year contractor so I have a great deal of knowledge about the roof damage I claimed after a series of severe storms. After an attempt to settle my claim for the standard and bare minimum, and I disagreed, a claims inspector was called to physically review my roof damage. He personally presented me with my roof map and showed me the damage points - there were well over 50 that he reported. I wish I had a copy of the map now! NYCM has tried every trick in the book to not revise their payout from "not receiving the inspectors report" to saying "the roof was installed with staples" a standard practice at the time of installation, to the claim handler was on vacation to changing the area of the roof they said they originally offered to cover!...and the list goes on. They took 57 photos of the roof and cannot produce a single photo of the area in question - doesn't seem possible from a longstanding insurance company. It is shameful that NYCM handles unsuspecting policyholders this way, but I'm a professional contractor and I KNOW what they are doing! I also know that I'll continue to fight and share this story with everyone I know - and that's a lot of clients, friends, family and acquaintences. Buyer beware!!!
Oooooooooooooo, August, 2017
Not good no good no good no good no good no good no good no good no good no good no good no good no good no good no good no good no good
Baffled, May, 2016
I am wondering how such a curiously small company has a big of a bottom line of 1.1 billion dollars, uses another holding company as a rag doll (Albert F Stager), provides claimants with an adjuster that is clearly in their pocket and remains financially solvent. I paid my premium for the year and had a claim where I was barraged with questions, put on the spot and told an adjuster would be out within the week. It took 2 months for the adjuster to come, and when he did he was asking the wrong questions, and was a fairly slimy sort of guy. Customer service refuses to discuss the problem with me, and they are canceling my policy (due to fraud/ inherent vice). I should have kept paying the higher premium with Nationwide because I know I would have been covered. In my opinion this company should be f rated on all counts.
the adjusters are bought & paid for by the company, April, 2017
had snow damage from this years past Noreaster, have damage to our home and roof leading into celler , all of a sudden roof is not covered and due to water damage from rain and ice getting behind siding, and rotting out a header which could not be seen, until deck pulled away from our home, and . I had to remove siding so that a second senior adjuster could see what was wrong , now its this engineering company or it may be another, fact is the first adjuster lied and got caught, now it is weather or not they will honor our claim or not , smart thing!!! get state farm or gieco !!!
dont use fly by night company, December, 2016
Do not use this company they dont pay on aany claims and customer service is the worst ever.even the agencies say its bad
Termination with NO customer contact, December, 2012
Extremely disappointed with NY Central Mutual after many, many years of service. I received a termination of my homeowners policy in the mail, total surprise, with inaccurate information. The representative NEVER contacted me or my agent. I would never recommend them after the way I have been treated. I had to file a claim last year for an automobile accident that was not my fault and believe this is the retaliation for changing companies. NY Central were not very helpful or cooperative with the automobile claim and actually changed decisions halfway through the claim process and refused to pay my medical expenses causing a billing nightmare and extra expenses for me. I'm done with them forever.
Cancellation notice, September, 2015
I have had my homeowners, automobile (5 vehicles), and Umbrella coverage with this company for about 6 years. Never a claim, always paid on time, the full year up front. Yesterday I got a non-renewal notice for my homeowners stating that I am a ISO protection level 10 for fire protection, which when I looked it up means there is no fire protection service in my area. Turns out that if the fire house is more than 5 miles away you are rated a level 10. The nearest fire house is exactly 5.1 miles from my house. It has been there and has not moved for decades, but all of a sudden now I can not buy insurance from this company. I have a 2 acre pond in my back yard, water is on site, but they consider me unprotected. Tried explaining to customer service by phone and e mail without success. They are cancelling me on October 24 but I plan to take my business elsewhere before that. I have been a good customer and did nothing to deserve being tossed out in the trash like this.
Great service, December, 2014
I have been very satisfied with NYCM. Sometimes I wish the premium was a little lower, but their claims service when I hit a deer with my car was worth the extra couple of dollars, plus my independent agent is a friend and he has his personal insurance with NYCM - that says a lot to me especially since he represents several companies.
NYCM gives insurance a bad name, March, 2015
I paid faithfully and on time for 15 years. I had two claims, neither of which NYCM would pay on. And the customer service was rude and uninformative. Still, I paid way over the normal rate for this insurance (I don't know why). But like others in this thread, they abruptly ended my insurance coverage without explanation. Some quick research, and I'm now getting better coverage for $500 less a year. DO NOT use NYCM.
New auto policy saved $250 per year over Geico, December, 2014
I am new to NYCM for my car insurance, no claims yet, but the rates were good and my agent made switching easy!
Good luck, December, 2014
I have had good luck with this company. They are always helpful when I call into customer service to make my payment.
Best Claims People, March, 2016
Not sure why some people are complaining - I have had NYCM since 2010 (i think?) mostly because the price was so low. But I recently had an accident (thanks rochester weather) and they wrote me a check on the spot! I didn't know any company did that. It was such a great experience I had to write about it. Friendly, easy to work with, didn't make me jump thru hoops to make a claim. They have been giving me such low prices and they were fantastic when I did have an accident - don't know what else you want from an insurance company. Anyways - hope this helps if you're thinking about switching. Peace and Love!
cancelled me supposedly for bad roof and debris , November, 2015
they sent me a cancellation saying my roof shingles were curling, I have a slate roof. I had debris in my yard, it was in a trailer to go to the dump. I had a dog of unknown origin if the man that showed up had asked what type of dog I would have told him, but he didn't bother. but I think they just wanted to cancel me because someone had broken into my car and I filed a claim. I switched to my old company.
Canceling for mistreatment of employees, December, 2012
You force your workers to get weighed? Strip them of benefits. Take away holiday pay. Yet are making money hand over fist? I live locally enough to know all of this and it is not right. One less customer at a time changes America. I do not shop at walmart and I will not be insured with NYCM now either. Here I come State Farm.
Incompetent handling of auto-pay billing, February, 2015
I used the auto-pay feature which was linked to my debit card. Then one day I got a letter from the DMV saying my auto insurance policy was cancelled. I called NYCM and they said the last payment did not go through so they cancelled my policy. I have had the policy for years without issue using auto-pay. I have thousands of dollars in the account, so it was not due to insufficient funds. No reason was ever given for why they were unable to withdraw the funds. I had the same issue the previous month and customer service told me they fixed the problem. Apparently they did not and now I have to pay the consequences in terms of lapsed insurance for their incompetence. They refused to accept any blame for the incident and now I am preparing a small claims lawsuit against them.
Terrible customer service, August, 2015
Terribly difficult to pay bill. Worst customer service. Won't renew my policy. Won't refer them to anyone that I like
They take your money; they don't pay, January, 2016
They will take your money not pay your claim and be invasive. You report them to the department of financial services and they will stretch it out. Not many attorneys want to deal with their special doll of Satan. The attorneys that have had success seem to be booked. I would not allow their employees to breed.
Never again, March, 2015
These clowns want me to pay $1100 a year for ins. Zero claims, Zero points on my license. Got SAME coverage from Geico for $702. Now NYCM will not cancel my insurance unless I send them a letter and proof that I have other coverage. ( This is not a law that I do so) and I will not do so.
Great company , June, 2014
Everyone complains they get dropped by NYCM. The reason is, is that they want exclusive clients that pay on time and no claims.
Deny and Delay, January, 2016
Filed a claim due to roof leaking after 3 months from purchase of home the contract stated the age of the rood to be 3 years and after talking with neighbors it has been in place for 2.5 years which is less. I had an expert look at it to determine if materials were defective and they said not. This company will take your money but not honor their own contract. Out of morbid curiosity or whatever it is do not insure yourself with this company if there is any remote possibility of having a claim even if you don't think you will; you are not insured correctly. The only way to get satisfaction afterwards is to corner them like a rat in a trap and stakes put on opposing sides.
awsome rates, September, 2015
not sure why everyone here is going crazy
by law they cannot cancel you for no reason, so please take that elsewhere. if they cancel your policy they will let you know including letters. and if you switch its to your best interest they get the copy of new coverage so you don't have any dmv issues.
Good Company, April, 2015
I was having problems with getting Geico to change my billing plan and coud not afford to pay in full like they wanted. My parents reccomended NYCM and they have been very easy to get ahold of and they even called me back to make sure I was happy with the answers to my questions...real humans calling, not an automated survey machine. Anyway, I'm very impressed with this local company and am proud to support an upstate NY company!
never again, October, 2013
I've been with this company for 12 years and I have 2 claims with them and I got a notice in the mail that they will not be renewing my insurance I can not believe this after being a customer for that many years and only 2 claims they are going to drop a customer.
poor customer relations, November, 2015
sent required papper work for my problem and eventually had to re-submit same fs forms from another insurance company and there still was no resolution.
Go elsewhere, August, 2015
with them for years. cancelled as I got better price elsewhere. They did not return my over payment as it was only $3...that is what they said...only $3 so they wrote it off. Unbelievable they sure would have sent me a bill for $3 if I owed the. Over the years every time I tried to make a change it was always a hassle, You can get a better price and better service and honesty elsewhere.
Terrible customer service, February, 2016
I just became a customer of NYCM & already they have given me a bad impression. They have terrible customer service skills & seem very incompetent when it comes to their knowledge of the company. Although they gave me a better rate than what I had with Geico, I'd prefer to have Geico back as an agency than them any day. Let's just say so far my experience has been terrible & I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Hopefully my experience gets better, if not they'll be losing another customer.
Happy with account administration, December, 2015
I have had no problems with the administrative handling of my account. Since I have made no claims, I cannot comment on that aspect of customer service
Great company A++++, December, 2015
I work at NYCM. I even have my auto insurance and homeowners insurance thru them. I rest easy knowing I am safe in their hands. Great company to work for and employees are second to none..
poor record keeping, billing, September, 2015
I received another cancellation notice, when in fact my insurance was paid up to date.NYCM screwed up again.I can now say good bye to you. My pmts. are never late and this is how they treat 20+ year customers.Shame, sham.(yes sham). They sent my bill, I paid, they cashed my check and still sent me a cancellation notice.
Annoyed, June, 2014
You are the worst company to deal with and they lie about what is covered! Working on building a file against this insurance company as Im not the only one!.
Horrible company to deal with, August, 2016
One of their customers hit my car. The accident was CLEARLY his fault; he ran a stop sign and hit the passenger side of my car. His car sustained damage to the front. Submitted claim (after NYCM sent what I consider rather unprofessional paperwork). Submitted police report indicating the accident was his fault, along with pictures of both cars showing damage. They DENIED my claim! Now I have to personally sue the poor older man who hit my car. There's a reason people deal with companies like Nationwide and Geico and not Mickey Mouse operations like NYCM. They shouldn't be allowed to do business and issue policies.
Horrific, June, 2016
Approximately 6 months ago NYCM restructured their co. Unfortunately, they have destroyed this once caring ins. co. They are basically saying they no longer care about NYS Regulations when it comes to their customers & the necessary repairs to customer vehicles. This has now caused a financial burden to the shop that needs to repair the vehicle correctly & the owner who may have to shell out money out of their pocket. IF YOU HAVE NYCM YOU BETTER THINK TWICE
THANK GOD they are not my insurance company, June, 2016
One of their clients hit my car. They were good about paying for the damage. The car rental however I was taking aback. I dropped my car off at the auto body the night before. They would only approve it for 3 days, and I couldn't get it till the work started. and only under my husbands name. What a hassle I would not recommend them to anyone! They made me fell like a criminal trying to get something over on them!
STAY AWAY!!!, October, 2016
I had to use NYCM because the woman who caused my motor accident over the summer totaled my car and I didn't currently have rental coverage. NYCM wouldn't take responsibility for the car rental until liability had been claimed. So I got the police report myself & emailed it to them. They sat on it for 5 days even though it clearly said their insured was 100% at fault. They then took another two weeks to do an initial appraisal of the car and another month to decide they would do repairs. When the car went in for repairs, the mechanic found what he had suspected all along... the frame was bent bringing the repairs to well over $17,000 meaning the car was totaled. It took over a week for NYCM to officially total the car and get me my total loss offer. They took my rental car and forced me to buy a new car before I got my payout check. It took a month to get my check and then it was shorted by $1000 when I got it. They are the WORST! No idea what they're doing. Save yourself stress rather than money and go elsewhere.
ADK Chestertown, July, 2016
Big jump in premium. Call to agent. To review file and return my call no return call received. Canceled policy
Horrible company, August, 2016
Been with this insurance company for almost 10 year I have to say if u have this company switch or if u r looking to get insurance go elsewhere this company is a joke all they do is give u the run around I had a garage fire 2 months ago and still have not received a check they have bad communication problems and half the time they say they will call u but they don't worst insurance company the rates r reasonable but the agrivation they put u thru is not worth the money u save seriously I don't recommend this company
poor customer service... lots of headaches, April, 2016
Their automated service doesn't offer a prompt for filing a claim... you wait forever for customer service. While talking to the NYCM rep there were long periods of silence before they would respond, I almost hung up because I thought I dropped the call. The form letters that they send you after you file a claim are horrible written and I find them to aggressively offensive.
Poor Business Practices, June, 2016
In April of this year, moved all my insurance to NYCM, had a great quote. Paid my bill in full for the year. IMy daughter is 35 and temporarily living with us, she has her own car and auto insurance. NYCM had questions about her since she was in the house. Her auto insurance co. furnished a letter attesting to her having her own policy and its number. I told NYCM she did not want to furnish a copy of her policy and to get it from her insurance co. They said the insurance co. would not speak to them due to customer confidentiality. Then why should someone not their client speak to them? In June of this year, received a cancellation notice..Lacking acceptable underlying automobile liability for my daughter.
would not use this company, June, 2016
would not pay claim on water damage cause I wasn't home for a week and a half. I was working out of town.
Criminals, April, 2017
I was told by an agent that they don't charge more for certain breeds of dogs but agent couldn't answer why my insurance was so much more then anywhere else. I've never had a claim and live 1 mile from the fire department and my insurance goes up every year. Nothing by criminals I will be dropping them asap
Reliable and Stable Company, October, 2017
This company only writes in NYS and employs New Yorkers. Products on par with the rest of the industry. Reliable rates and I had great service during my Homeowner's claim in 2009. Ask your Agent for a quote from this company!
Tornado Damage Denied, July, 2018
When our home was hit by a tornado we expected to have our claim covered, especially because we pay a premium for guaranteed replacement. Unfortunately, despite 2 of their adjusters and multiple contractors, they have denied our claim for damage to our deck. They have stated they "Graciously" have given us money to cover some of it but refuse to look at photos, etc... Their engineer that came to look at the structure said there was no structural damage - per their word.
We have gone 5 months with boarded up windows, door, and siding ripped off, fence broken while they bully us around.
We have also escalated this claim but no returned calls from leadership at all. I can only speak from experience but this has been the worst customer experience and covering up that I have seen. Especially when we sent them all the pictures (with link following capabilities when they open) and they NEVER opened any of the links.
I would reconsider them or speak to other policy holders who have them and have put in a claim for anything of substance. Our family is not a priority to get us whole but instead they would rather fight 1 coat of paint on new sheetrock (yes without primer,etc...).
Cancelling my Widowed Mother after 40 YEARS!, May, 2018
It's hard to say anything kind about a company that has decided to drop my widowed mother's coverage because she had two accidents. She has had NYCM for about 40 years and received a letter stating this is the last month (June) they will insure her. She had one accident that was her fault (due to illness) and one that was the result of a tractor trailer on the highway sliding into the median. After ALL the money my family has spent with NYCM we will be gladly taking her business elsewhere. It's sad that there was no communication to mom prior to her receiving this letter on Mother's Day weekend. Horrible business practices and caretakers of senior citizens - BEWARE!!!!
