Possibly the worst customer service I've ever , February, 2016
NM Health connections has the worst customer service I have ever had. Numerous promises from the local agent to call me back the next business day once she'd fixed the problem and no call back until I'd called her multiple times and then eventually stopped by the office. I got the run around from the main number about not being able to access my information and them saying they couldn't help me I had to call the local agent (see above).
The 5th time I called to get my problem fixed the agent I spoke to was able to fix it but not without some serious attitude attached.
Great for the premium amount, January, 2016
I chose to buy NM health connections online because the monthly premium was hundreds less than all the other options. I was pregnant at the time of purchase and they paid for all my prenatal visits including specialists and medication and my c section, a breast pump and babys hospital bills with no problem at all. I had to pay co pays of $60 for specialist visits and $2000 for the hospital visit but I believe that's pretty average for albuquerque nm. I'm definitely staying with them. A great value and worth the monthly premium payments. Most providers take the insurance as well.
Not Real Insurance, May, 2016
New Mexico Health Connections is not real insurance
I had a great Lovelace primary care physician for 7 years. Then my employer switched us to NMHC (Obamacare). My rates increased $100 a month, and I have been unable to see a
doctor for over 8 months.
When I called my doctor, he informed me they didn't accept Obamacare, and advised me to get "real insurance".
Then the fiasco started. I called NMHC, and asked toget a new PCP. They told me there was at least
a four month wait, and there were no doctors in their "network"accepting new patients in the entire city of Albuquerque. They then told me to go to the University of New Mexico Hospital.
I needed to get one prescription refilled, I wasn't in a car accident.
No problemo, I could go to their "urgent care" center.
Getting a prescription refilled isn't really urgent, but I foolishly took their advice.
I went to the urgent care center, and it was absolutely insane.
People screaming, arguing about insurance, crackheads,
prostitutes, and at last 50% of the people had neck tattoos.
There was a homeless man, rocking back and forth in his seat,
holding a 12" steak knife. Nobody seemed to mind. Every seat
was taken, I had to stand.
I forked over a $50 copay. The wait was not long, I have to give
them that, but a "nurse" took me into a dark room with just a
desk and computer. Not sanitary.
There was NO medical equipment, and she didn't take
my vitals. I told her that NMHC had told me to go there
to get a prescription refilled. She then politely informed
me that they could not do that. I asked her who could, and
she suggested I go to UNM hospital. A waste of an afternoon
and $50. It's just a clinic for homeless people to get needles,
and prostitutes to get antibiotics for their STD's.
I am going with a private plan, this is just bad.
Would give NO stars if possible. , November, 2017
This company is crooked and it's not real insurance. It's more like a discount program (but with little to no "discount, even K-Mart has bigger "discounts"). You end up paying most of the cost even AFTER paying an exorbitant amount on a monthly basis for the premiums. Why do they call this insurance then??? AND why are customers supposed to pay premiums AND most of the cost of any medical procedure/appointment?? Makes no sense. This is NOT what the concept of insurance is at all. They're fraudulently making money hand over fist. Not to mention that every time you go to the doctor they repeatedly send you bills saying you owe $60 every time and even after the payment is sent in, they still send bills SEVERAL times for $60 as if it hasn't been paid. When you call to ask about it, they have no idea what's going on. A 2nd Grader could do a better job in their "customer service" department. ALSO, if you don't qualify for "Obamacare" subsidies, then you have to pay full price, and you're totally screwed. They have repeatedly raised rates the last two years and now they're trying to raise my rate from $352 (already highway robbery) up to $529 a month starting in January 2018!!! And it's an even crappier plan than I have now!! WHAT?????? They just do whatever they want and the health insurance business (racket) is largely unregulated so they're getting away with it! NEVER again. I'm dropping it for 2018 and taking my chances on my own. They've totally priced me out of being able to afford it anyway. I am not paying as much as a mortgage payment for insurance, it's totally ridiculous. I could buy a second home for what they're wanting me to pay. Hopefully, they'll go out of business if everyone has enough sense to drop them. RUN THE OTHER DIRECTION FROM THIS COMPANY!!!! DO NOT GET INVOLVED WITH THEM!!!!!
Dont do it, look elsewhere, September, 2017
Paid my health plan with cash 8/18 at Walmart/Money gram. Per Money Gram, NMHC did get funds. HOWEVER.... NM Hlt Connections did not apply the money to my account and even sent me a letter saying I will loose my coverage if I don't pay. I called the "billing dept" phone number on statement.... I got customer service and was told all they could do is contact billing. Wait, I thought I wall calling Billing!!!!!!! I have made three calls and have sent them a copy of the money gram receipt that clearly shows a payment was made to them for my account on 8/18/2017. To day, still no call back and my account still shows unpaid! Terrible customer service and even worse accounting. I wish I could give zero stars!
Awful, August, 2017
NM Health Connections is the cheapest insurance there is for my family and I after Obama Care. Still, we pay an outrageous amount each month in premiums (almost as much as our mortgage payment) and get virtually nothing in return. For the dissatisfaction of having to use this company, they go out of their way to deny legitimate claims, ask us if we need to sue anyone so the insurance company can recoup what little it pays out, and I'm convinced hired the nastiest, meanest person it could find to be its customer service representative, probably so no one would call twice. Now this blood sucking company wants to greatly increase the cost of premiums while decreasing benefits. Thanks! Can't wait to start paying more for this crap in the months to come!
