I work customer service so i am always kind to whom i am speaking to and i know how it should work. I called to get flood insurance. Our original quote was good but when we called to pay it had went up 100 dollars. I didn't bring it up because i just wanted to be done. We then had to up our coverage to meet the mortgage companies standards. I've spent over 5 hours on the phone with different people (mostly on hold). I was on the phone for over an hour one time only to be told i would have to speak to a different department that would call or email me. I waited 3 days and no one called or emailed me. I called to see what the cost to be if we changed our deductible. After being on hold for about 20 minutes the lady straight up told me no they couldn't give me a quote. I asked if someone else could and she said maybe later in the week. I called another time to pay my bill and the lady couldn't find my policy, even though i had the policy number. Because we were at our due date for the mortgage company we went with nationwide even though i really did not want to. After all that i tried to pay my remaining balance and they added another 100 to it! Definitely switching companies as soon as possible. Never again. The only person that was helpful and i had any confidence worked for the flood division. Completely separate from nationwide.

I had a slip and fall injury accident at a restaurant insured by Nationwide. I my insurance claim for my injuries was dismissed in two months without a complete investigation of the restaurant's negligence. I had two incompetent claims agents and an investigator during that short period. Nationwide denied the claim but continued to investigate and contact my doctors six times for the same information. Nationwide did the minimum to collect its premium income but failed to protect the franchise restaurant owner from complaints to the parent corporation and possible legal action. I am a 68 year old male that is permanently injured and had to pay for 75% of my medical co-payments myself. Nationwide stiffed my insurance company and did pay pay the entire medical lien. Nationwide insurance failed everyone but themselves.
Company's Inflation Guard feature , over last 19 years, has increased replacement cost far above actual costof replacement.

Prices continue to go up. Going to switch to another Insurance Co. We have been with Nationwide for over 30 years! We will not continue to pay the outrageous high $$$$ for home and auto insurance.

I had both auto and renters insurance with Nationwide and danced with glee when I fired them.
Their claims handling after an auto accident caused by someone else was criminal. The other party sued and Nationwide settled (for that magical $10K shyster range) to avoid the cost of defense. They then jacked my rates.
A few years later I was ready to move to a new town and asked them to quote me a renters policy there. They claimed they needs to get a supervisor involved and would call me the next business day. They didn't but wrote a new policy (without my authorization much less a quote) and billed me. Highly illegal, so I reported them to the California state insurance regulator.
Bottom line: Stay away from nationwide. "Band of thieves" might be a generous description.
Cost-effective but terrible service, July, 2014
I had auto and renter's insurance through Nationwide and after giving them at least ten chances to get their act together, I switched. The customer service was friendly, but I encountered major issues from get-go, such as them neglecting to notify me that they had changed policy numbers (I found out when my loan company called me concerned that my insurance was canceled), this took at least 6 phone calls to fix.
Then, after setting up my autopay, it failed to catch (it stated that it would be withdrawn as of a certain date for that billing period)and I was only notified by mail (even though I selected all notifications to be through email) a few days before the cancelation became effective because they had not gotten a payment.
after a few months of keeping a close eye on it, I thought all had been resolved, and I decided to add renter's insurance to my policy. After an hour on the phone answering questions about my new apartment, I asked to verify that the address being insured was my new address and not my current one (I needed the proof of insurance before I could officially accept my new apartment). The rep assured me it was correct, but sure enough all of the documentation was for my previous address. I called and corrected this multiple tiems and kept getting the wrong address. Finally it was escalated and a supervisor assured me that I needed to sign the documents regardless of the address listed. This seemed wrong to me, but I did it.
Then a month later I got a letter saying that my address was uninsurable due to a fire code policy, and after two phone calls and another 48 hours of wait time, I was told it was because I was too far from a fire station. (I can walk to two of them). said they would send someone to verify, but two weeks later I got an email asking to take pictures of all four walls of apartment as well as the outside. I canceled and started shopping.

Nationwide does not value it's customers at all. My rates went up $20 at the end of a coverage period- with no fault of my own. They charged my account automatically despite the increase, basically telling me to just deal with it. My agent didn't call me back after MANY calls to him. Then, I got in an accident that resulted in my car being totaled. I did get a reasonable amount for my car but the claims process was otherwise horrible. Unhelpful and rude employees who didn't care what I had to say about the accident or that I had video of the other party admiring blame and negligence. They settled liability 100% on me without even informing me. Absolutely horrible company at every level- expensive AND poor service.

This is the worst agent I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. When I renewed the lease on my apartment, I had called to ask that they (this office ) fax over proof of insurance. They said that they would take care of it. Fast forward three months, I get a note from the leasing office saying I owe a fine of nearly $100 for being out of compliance with the insurance policy. I come to find out that Nationwide never faxed over the documentation for my renters policy. I call the Ryan Harris office and they faxed it right then (I'll admit to being forceful) with a note on the bottom saying that they accepted responsibility for not faxing it when I asked. I asked Nationwide to pay for or reimburse me for the fine since it was their mistake in the first place. They refused, even while admitting fault. So basically, even if they screw up, you are responsible for paying for their mistakes. I spoke to the corporate office and received the same response.

They will treat you good until they get your money. They said they would not renew my coverage because I caused two minimal accidents. No one injured and barely visible scratches both times on the vehicles. This are the two incident I caused in the last 5 years. Good luck to them, I have plenty of options out there.

Walked in to start an auto policy. Met Jasmine (michael bailey agency on s.hwy 6 houston TX 77083); asked her few questions so i could be well informed abt what i will be paying. And she replied "you dont have to sign up with nationwide, you can go elsewhere". Am glad i took my business elsewhere. Better service, less quote, more options nd reliable customer service.

Nationwide...On Your Side?
Yesterday, I received word that I will have my insurance with Nationwide cancelled. I first switched to Nationwide around 1980. I moved my auto insurance and later life and home insurance from other companies. Many times over the years, I received notifications from other companies saying they can save me money. Several times, I checked just to see, but always stayed with NWI, even though I could have gotten insurance cheaper other places. In all these years, I feel like I've been a good customer and haven't had only a few claims. My wife has been on my account since about 1995. Over a year ago, she experienced her first and I feel her last DUI, the company that claims to be "On My Side" is abandoning us. Thankfully, no damage occurred during the incident. No one was injured and no claims were filed. She hasn't had a drink since July of last year and I don't feel that she would be inclined to drink and drive again. One DUI in 30 years of driving.
I am cancelling all of my policies and looking for a company that is willing to admit that no one is perfect and is willing to Stand Beside Me during our difficutl times. 32 years of customer loyalty and this is the Thanks Nationwide gives us.

I went with them because they were cheaper than others, but after I closed on the house and they sent someone to "analyze" the property, I get this letter saying they are cancelling if I don't paint the soffits and get the moss (which was really only a few lykens on a "portion" of the roof) off the roof shingles. I "JUST" had closed on the house!!! Somebody must have smoked a few before coming to assess this because It was February in New England! First off, how do they think ANYONE can get that done in a week! Secondly, how do they think PAINT will dry in 20 degree weather, or powerwashing the roof can be done without freezing! Someone there is definitely smoking something... I had planned to do all these things when spring had actually arrived! I'm not even going to go through the BS of getting someone to provide a contract saying they will be able to work on it on such and such a date. They also upped my coverage to almost 100K more giving me some BS about how it will take that much to rebuild, when there are places twice the size of my mere 2 family that are being assessed for MUCH less. This whole thing was sketchy, and from what I hear, is a regular thing with how they do business and get more money out of people after they sucker them in...

We were originally with Allied and with moderate satisfaction. Subsequent to Allied and Nationwide merger agreement the service went from poor to outrageous. I could elaborate further, but the outcome was that their own system conveniently overcharged us during a switch over to another insurance. The explanation was literally shouted out to us in a line of 'your billing was very complected'! I am sorry, but we have not invented it, nor did we set it all up in your, superior accounting! And yes, like many other ex-customers pointed out, their constantly increasing rates were done without a warrant either.

What a joke. I sign up with nationwide after talking to a rep on the phone. She assured me the inspection would be nothing serious. The guy came out a week or two later I got an email and inspect the outside of the house, then I got an email a week later that read I need the following things fixes including adding a handrail. Only it does have a handrail. The list of things would cost around a thousand dollars. I was told I have a month to fix the items or my policy would be cancel. A week in a half later they sent me a canceling policy. Don't believe the rich TV personalities they hire because Nationwide is not on YOUR side.

We signed up with Nationwide because they weren't the cheapest but were willing to handle monthly payments instead of all upfront. We signed up with Ward Insurance in Levittown PA and everything was fine until we got the workers comp audit. We didn't understand what we needed to do and didn't complete the paperwork in time. A couple months later the rate was dramatically increased because they auto adjusted since we didn't complete the paperwork in time. We called the insurance agent, he had the payment refunded took our payroll info (which was way lower than we'd originally estimated) and said he would take care of the adjustment. A month later they willed out even more than what was pulled in Sept. The agent never took care of it, doesn't return our calls, e-mails or really handle any follow-up at all. Still don't know what we are supposed to be paying and its now the beginning of December.

I opened policies approx. Three weeks ago. A very long process. I needed to find coverage for my South Carolina home. The NW jingle works because I gave them a call. The agent that I dealt with was pleasant and made it seem as though this was a great company to insure with.
The only way that they would insure my SC home was if I changed my other properties as well. I sort of felt like I was between a rock and a hard place and because the rates seemed competitive, I took on the incredibly difficult task of changing them all one by one. But hey, they would be under one umbrella and at a good rate; three homes after all!
Well, one by one I am learning that the rates are going up for various reasons not discussed at the time of my quotes. They even complained about repainting trim on one which I am awaiting an estimate for anyway, but why is that THEIR business?
Thank goodness I didn't give them my car too! I am now looking for another change.

Nationwide would not renew our policy and gave us a months notice from ONE accident my husband had that they didn't even have to pay out on. Avoid using Jason White Nationwide (Olive Branch, Mississippi) or Nationwide altogether. There are so many people in the Memphis area that drive without insurance, It's bad businesses like Nationwide that will take your payment and kick you for the main reason you have insurance!

So here is the deal. I was with Nationwide for three years. Every six months, when they renewed my policy, they increased my cost at least by 20 dollars. But I kept continue and did not say anything, until my insurance expired on May 31. I was waiting for an updated insurance card to arrive. Finally, I got impatience and went a Nationwide office on May 26 to get my updated card. The agent told me that still I have a few days and the new card will come until May 31. I waited again, but never received the new card and finally I called Nationwide on May 31 at the end of the day. First, she put me on hold for several minutes and finally she said my policy was cancelled. I was so shocked and said who did cancel my policy. She said you had accidents that is why we cancelled it. Since both accidents were not my fault and I have police report to prove my innocence, I told the lady that it was not my fault and I have the police reports to prove my claim. Guess what she said it DOES NOT MATTER, ACCIDENTS ARE ACCIDENTS. They report both accidents under my name in my driver record. Now, my insurance goes to the roof for this reason and every company says I was uninsured for two days and that is a problem. This company is totally fraud and dishonest. This country has government and laws and should stop such atrocity. First they cancelled my policy without giving me a notice to find another company and secondly they destroyed my record by giving false information. I advise anyone to stay away from this fraudulent company. Pay a few more bucks to another company and stay away from this bogus company. Nationwide will never be on your side, remember this.

I filed a claim for damage sustained from hitting a large pothole. It has now been over 1 month since I filed the claim and still nothing! I keep following-up and it's the same story over and over, "waiting for approval." The Adjuster already looked at the vehicle weeks ago and advised the damages are covered under Collision. There is absolutely no sense of urgency at Nationwide to resolve claims and fix their customer's vehicles. It is completely unacceptable and I have never experienced anything like this with my previous Insurance Companies. I was previously with Liberty Mutual and their customer service was great, the only reason I moved to Nationwide was due to an agent quoting me a lower price. As with everything else, you really get what you pay for. Nationwide is cheaper because it is complete garbage! Every person you speak with is incompetent and simply does not care. Stay far away from Nationwide and avoid any potential headaches.

Nationwide agent Vinson D. in Collin County offered me good rates for auto, homeowners and renters insurance, but he felt to disclosed conditions for those rates and gradually and without notifying me, deductions from my bank account started to increased without any tickets or claims. When I canceled all three policies, Nationwide continued to withdrawal premiums out of my bank account.

For 25 years, I have had numerous auto and house claims. One house was hit by lightening and had a hail damaged roof. The second house has had a hail damaged roof, and water leakage damage. I totaled a GMC pickup sliding on ice. Nationwide has always provided excellent service, and prompt payment of claims. However, their rates are now higher than competitors. Maybe because I have filed claims. I am considering switching to save money, although this might be a stupid move.
I have been very satisfied with Nationwide Insurance. The customer service has been very good and on the occasions that I have had claims either with homeowners or auto, I have been very satisfied with claim settlements.

Customer service is always helpful and payments are so easy to make (they even accept payment from a Savings account! It comes with a hefty price tag, but it's soooooo worth it. i've been with a lot of insurance companies since I came to U.S 20 years ago, but this is the first time I wanted to give comment to nationwide insurance company, because they did a really good job to serve their customers when the customers needed them . Within 2 years , there were too many things happened to us. We had to file claim Insurances for car accident, hail damage to our car, our house....I got worry to bother them all the time, but their customer services are excellent beyond my expectations, and they made me feel confident to explain my situations, not like other insurance companies . Specially Engin Calvin was the one who helped us to go thru the hail issue for our house. She explained things clearly , reasonable , and fast respond all the time when we had questions or problems. Because of Nationwide insurance customer services we had experiences so far, and because of the way Engin work, I believe that I will stay with this insurance company for a long time no matter what , because they sure were on my side when I needed them go thru a lot of unlucky moment and weather disaster in the past .

I have been with Nationwide in excess of 35 years. Insurance, auto, homeowner, boats, etc. I knew I was paying more, but loved the agents over the years. Now to my surprise...I buy a 2018 vehicle on Labor Day and reach out to add this coverage... after waiting 2 days ( very unusual) so I call ...only to be routed to another agent...who doesn't respond, go on the Nationwide site and no longer see "my agent" listed on their site...what am I to think! Now I am concerned. I call the national Nationwide phone number...only to get an agent who acts like she doesn't have the time...then forwards my call to the agent that I have already tried to get in touch with. Frustrated I drive 20 minutes to "my agents" address and they are moving out! Pathetic customer service...no notice to their customers, no email auto replies...No respect given to literally a lifetime customer. Tell me why I would stay with Nationwide if this is their true culture of treating customers?

I have worked in the insurance industry on the claims side since 1991 and have had my insurance through Nationwide since 1994. My house sustained wind damage to siding which is a covered loss. My siding which is a premium vinyl shake siding that is no longer manufactured because the company is out of business. There is no available product on the market that is even remotely similar and Nationwide refused to reside my home. They do not pay valid claims. Pick another insurance company.

Was with nationwide as a LOYAL customer for both renters and auto insurance and after getting into one at fault accident they decided to drop me as a customer. I received a call about some bullshit that they no longer cover in my area, (which I found out they still did) instead of having the balls to tell me they just thought I was a high risk driver. I have never had such horrible service from a company. Would not recommend to anyone else.

I chose Nationwide because Liberty Mutual had done a terrible job with a homeowners claim (Wind Damage). I read that Nationwide was great with claims and customer service, so I thought this would be an ideal fit. After one year with them with no claims, they doubled my yearly rate. Secondly, I bought a new car for my daughter, called them that day for a binder to which they told me "you are fine, we will note your account and call us when you've disposed of the disabled vehicle, as you have 10 days." Big mistake on my part, because the Maryland MVA then sent me a letter saying I didn't have coverage on the new car for 5 days so I needed an FR19 (I've NEVER been without coverage in my 30 years of driving). I called Nationwide and they said they couldn't help me because even though I called to get a binder, they had not done it and it was not their problem. Long story short, I had to file a claim with the Maryland Insurance Commission, and THEN Nationwide fixed the issue. Unfortunately, I'm STILL dealing with Nationwide's screw up because the MVA is asking for another FR19 when I changed this year. To not even have a claim with them, and deal with this many issues with incompetent staff is crazy. I can't imagine what would have happened if I needed to file a claim and certainly on that one vehicle, I probably would have been denied because they didn't bind the vehicle when I called from the dealer. NEVER again!

Have life insurance policy and pay monthly,found out the actual policy for $5000 whole life was $12 mth but I pay$19 mth, $7 is for administration fees, even though they debit my checking account each mth for payment.I never get a statement.

Filed 3 claims in one day. Two autos stolen & garage broken into. They were amazing and very calming to know such great people and company were taking care of us! Can't believe such an insurance company exists but they made it as easy and convenient as possible.

I have had Nationwide since 1989. In that time I filed for 2 wind damage claims and 2 vehicle vehicle claims, one of which was due to a deer running out in front of my son's truck, the other from swerving to avoid an accident resulting in some minor damage from leaving the road. In all 4 cases NW paid for the damages. I could not tell enough people about my satisfaction with the company. But since high winds took down a fence just over a year ago my rates have risen quite a bit. It took a month for an adjuster to come out but that was because there was a lot of damage in the area that was worse than mine, so I could understand that. I've been shopping around for better rates, but I thought I'd give NW a chance to give me better quotes. They lowered my auto by $200 a year buy issuing a new policy, but when we tried the same for home it doubled from $1400 a year to $2800. I have been told that I am paying the price for making a claim on that fence. Quotes from Allstate as well as others are a third of that. One policy would save me $2400 a year compared to NW. Yes, their service has been great, but being dinged due to an act of God and their relatively high rates has got me looking around for a better deal with a highly rated company as well. It gets to a point where you have to find a balance between service and cost.

They have continually increased my rates in my 3 years with them. Then I get told by my agent to go to another company. I call the company and they give me a runaround and won't answer my questions. If I am supposed to get rewarded for time spent with the company but I am paying more than I did when I first started with them and have LESS coverage how is that being rewarded for staying with them? My rate increases 30% in a year. They call it a "regular rate increase". If that is a normal rate increase than I no one will ever be able to afford staying with this company. I am changing companies and they will never see my business again. I hope this they go under so no one has to deal with their nonsense.

My insurance agent found me a good full coverage policy through Nationwide/Allied. Previously I was with Progressive. Wish I could have stayed but the cost was too much, even though I've never been in an accident.
It has been 2 months that I have been with them and I just got a cancellation letter in the mail. The reason being is that proof of previous insurance was not provided. My insurance agent DID submit proof. Since my insurance agent's office was closed on that day I received the letter, so I decided to call them myself. I explained the situation, and I am asked "So what is your question?" Seriously? What do you think my question is? I want this resolved. Who do I send the proof to since your letter you sent me has no contact information? She then tells me to that I need to contact my insurance agent. Well duh, but she is not in and I would think I am fully competent enough to send it in MYSELF!
Extremely rude lady. I don't think I am even go to send in the proof. I will have my insurance agent shop around for a BETTER insurance carrier!
So thanks but NO thanks Nationwide.
Astronomic Rate Increases&Poor Customer Service, March, 2017
I have six policies with Nationwide and have never filed a claim. Auto bill increased over 100% in 1 year. Billing readability and website are terrible. Customer service is all but nonexistent.

I was with Nationwide for quite sometime and they switched me to a subsidiary (Titans) Make sure you take note of who you speak with, customer service will tell you anything when getting your payment. I called in to do renewal and I have proof, they canceled my policy after 30 days and refuse to take ownership that they screwed up and will not reinstate. They will always tell you management is not available to speak with, I had nothing but headaches since I've had this policy. Your better off with no insurance dealing with this foolishness!!

Had a business policy with Nationwide for over 20 years. No Claims. Nationwide, for no good reason pulled the rug right out from under me. Left me finding a new business Insurance Company.

This is the worst insurance ever!! Stay away!! BEWARE! I paid insurance faithfully, got into an accident with a no licensed driver and uninsured. Sasha Beskip lead me to believe he was for and with me,but ended up paying for the unlicenced and uninsured who was also speeding and left me ASSED out and walking with an uninsured motorist provision on my policy. STAY AWAY!! LOOK ELSEWHERE PERIOD!!!!

Nationwide provided adequate service, agent and his people were nice, however; numerous errors in billing, coverage, had one accident in 5 yrs, NO Ticket or driver points; NW raised premium substantially !
