cost is too high, May, 2013
I would love to stay with Mercury but my rate went up when I changed auto insurance. And I need to find a lower rate.
Beware of their cancellation fee, June, 2015
Worst insurance ever. You be with them for years and they suddenly almost double your monthly payment. So, when you try to cancel, they charge the entire monthly payment as cancellation fee. Worst way to treat a customer.

I cancelled our policy about 7 days into the month and should have received a refund for 75% of the month as every insurance that I've every dealt with for 30 years would do but instead they charged me $50 for coverage that is cancelled. The insurance that I got was about $200 cheaper/month so it made sense to change. Shop around is all I have to say.
Update (August 13, 2015):
They fixed this and are now refunding me the $473 that they owe me instead of charging me an extra $50
Cheating company, January, 2017
I went through a third party agent who quoted me for mercury insurance and the premium was half what other insurers were asking. I told the agent to go ahead but before signing the contract decided to look at the reviews which were horrible. Mercury lived up to every horrible review because I told the agent I didn't want to sign the contract for mercury due to the reviews and to make a long story short, Mercury is trying to bill me for coverage I never signed up for. Unfortunately the third party agent could not help me resolve this problem and are telling me that an email saying lets go ahead with Mercury is a binding contract, which I'm sure is a lie, but at this point Mercury and the third party agent have wasted so much of my time with customer service calls that it has cost me more in time spent then the bill costs. The point of this rant is that Mercury will try to charge you for coverage you never signed up for and will submit your info to collections for a bill of $80. Sad that companies who do business like this exist. It's all about the money and not the client.

Can't get them to settle a claim over two years old. They keep asking for more information from dentist that are no longer in business. Bunch of crooks who take your payments and do nothing in return.

I do enjoy being served by Mercury for my insurance needs. I have auto and renter's coverage with Mercury and am so amazed on how much I save with them. In my three claims, Mercury has exceeded my expectations in attending to my needs as well as taking care of the other parties in a timely fashion. Therefore, Mercury Insurance is the BEST!

NO Billing Customer Service, March, 2017
WARNING: They do not care about customer service. You have to purchase insurance thru outside insurance agents - so you may not receive same day service, also be sure to call during business hours, and not at lunch! NO 24 hour service from them! Agent may or may not warn you of Mercury's $50 CANCELLATION FEE, but it's buried in the MERCURY contract - so if you want to change carriers MERCURY says TOO BAD, YOU LOOSE! So much for good faith effort to try to gain back a client in the future - I will NEVER be their client AGAIN!

I had full coverage and was hit by a hot and run and Mercury said they would not pay unless I got the other driver's license plate or driver's license. How is one supposed to get that information in a hit and run? You don't and Mercury would not pay. Worst Insurance Company.

Mercury Home Insurance has $50 cancellation fee. Fee is applicable, if cancelled any time during the policy term (One Year). So not stable for rented apartments with less than one year lease term
