Good unless you get sick., August, 2016
Missed chemo treatments due to insurace company not approving treatments on time. Called campany and they said they outsource to a different company for chemo treatment approvals. Called that company and they acted like they had no idea who i was or what was going on. Really didnt seem to care that its life or death.
RUN!, March, 2017
I got this policy during open season because of cost and my coworkers recommendations. This is the worse company ever I will pay the high premium with Blue Cross before I shell out any more money. Then they have this lab card they don't tell you about so labcorp ends up ripping you a new one instead of informing or even sending you the lab card with your package. November can't come soon enough I'm over GEHA
Poor provision of services, February, 2018
Poor response time for claims, waited 6 weeks for case management for life threatening illness, never did get chemo approved (waited 5 weeks). By the tI'm they got around to approvals, he had died. AND THEY CANCELLED HIS LIFE INSURANCE POLICY THE MONTH BEFORE HE DIED. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!

Stay away from this insurance unless you are healthy. Insurance is managed by Evicore and they basically decide what tests and treatment that you need regardless of what your doctor requests (not that they actually treat you or see you). They "know" better and deny most treatments.
Avoid - move to Blue Cross, January, 2016
They ignore evidence provided.
Harass the patient and Doctor's office with repetitive letters stating the same matter.
As a result the Doctor office have enough of dealing with GEHA and the patient is forced to do so.
Do not get trap by their premium cost - this is only a part of the process.

Run to your nearest attorney. This company does not pay its claims. Get familiar with yours State's insurance regulation agency.
Horrible Health Insurance , December, 2016
I changed from BC Federal to GEHA. This is the worst insurance I have ever had-no exaggeration. They lure you with low premiums, but they don't cover anything. I am healthy and my out of pocket costs with this insurance exceed $3500 this year( I had an injury). If you are a Federal employee, it is open season now and I suggest you GET OUT NOW!! unless you have money to waste and enjoy being aggravated

As someone who deals with this company I would never recommend GEHA to anyone. Patients waiting on surgery months and absolutely insaner the runaround they give you! DO NOT GET GEHA EVER!!!!! I will never tell anyone to get them but definetly make sure to tell everyone what a terrible, rip of they are
GEHA doesn’t work , June, 2018
I have spent 9 months trying to get an ER visit to process. GEHA hands your claim to United Health Care (UHC). UHC is a black box that you can’t talk to. UHC has no customer service. You can’t talk to UHC by phone, email or mail correspondence. GEHA customer service is useless. They provide you with their best guess as to why UHC won’t process your claim. This requires many hours of your time on the phone. It’s like having a second job.
An even worse problem is that they may not cover dureable medical equipment, even if your doctor says it is a medical necessity. If GEHA can find a way to deny coverage to save them a buck, they will. They actually required me to provide research in addition to my doctors letter of medical necessity, research that isn’t available. This is dirty.

Horrible. If anything goes wrong and you have to have a procedure or multiple visits you will have to fight tooth and nail for coverage. Even after EOB claims they will cover. A pure nightmare for my son's surgery. Even now , I have to pay 1400 for a biopsy they won't cover. Even after MD's office fixed and changed and resubmitted over 12 times.
Wasted our time and money, November, 2019
This past January my wife injured her ACL. When she saw a doctor a few days after the injury, the doctor said we need to do an MRI to see exactly what part of the knee was injured - ACL, MCL, torn meniscus, etc.? We asked if we should do any physical therapy or not, and he said therapy won't hurt the injury, but it definitely would help the injury. Nor would it help determine which part of the knee was injured.
However, GEHA would NOT approve an MRI until we tried therapy - GEHA uses a third party to review the doctors notes and then make their own determination about whether an MRI should be provided or not. Needless to say, the therapy didn't do anything except further delay the recovery. Plus it wasted our time and made us pay for needless therapy sessions.
6-7 weeks after the injury, an MRI was finally approved and showed that ACL surgery was needed.
After surgery my wife did therapy twice a week for a few months, and then decreased the visits to once a week. 5 months after surgery, both the doctor and therapist said they wanted to continue therapy for another month. GEHA said NO. So when we didn't need therapy, the forced us to do therapy. When our medical professionals said another month would be helpful, our almighty insurance provider told us we didn't need more therapy.
In the months after my wife's injury, I've talked with several people who recently needed ACL surgery, and ALL of them said they had their surgeries within a week or two of their injury. They told me they had Blue Cross for their insurance provider. I'm done with GEHA. I also tried contacting GEHA multiple times to discuss our issue and displeasure with them, but NEVER received a response.
Dishonest, unethical, and nightmarish, August, 2019
GEHA is a dishonest and unethical nightmare. Insured for many years. GEHA suddenly pulled coverage and did so retroactively for two entire years, sending letters to all providers having them reimburse them, and collect payment from us, event though all the claims were billed, approved, and paid over the last two years. We now have piles of medical bills mounting up and no way to actually pay them. For being a company that supposedly looks out for the welfare of those they insure, they sure are screwing us into the ground to the point where we may no longer be able to afford to live. Cannot speak lowly enough about this sorry excuse of an organization.

After 28 years, getting away from this bunch of liars. Strait out of a Grisham novel, The Rainmaker. No obstruction too small to delay or deny a claim. Unreasonable disregard for State of Washington Insurance laws. No interest in my side of the story. My medical friends cringe when I pull out my card. It's very sad, they used to be great. Went downhill when Aetna took them over.
Can't Get Cracked Tooth Fixed, December, 2018
GEHA was great at first. But now, they don't want to pay. I need a crown; they will only pay for a filling. My dentist has submitted several appeals with no response from GEHA. However, they get paid every two weeks. I have been walking around with a cracked tooth for a year now. It makes no sense. It's open enrollment; I'm switching plans.
Beware of what it ACTUALLY covers., May, 2017
I choose the GEHA high plan through Benefeds because it covered the highest percentage of services. I just got out of the military and didn't know that you need to the 48 page brochure to see what they really cover. I assumed that the percentgaes where what was covered.
I went to the dentist and recieved a bill for $1479. That was after the $664 I had already paid. They were only paying under 25% of the services.
They extremely rude customer service reps basically told me too bad, it's my problem. They same with Benefeds, the company that we had to choose the insurances from. Neither front page said GEHA only pays a percentage of the allowed amount. And once I found that amount halfway, through the 48 pages, I found the allowed amount is so low, no dentist would ever charge that little. They were the most expensive insurance, with the highest monthly price. And I cannot cancel because of some BS open season.
It makes me want to quit my job and get rehired just so I can cancel the insurance.
Proper Claim Submission is Important, February, 2016
My claim problems were due to improper coding, missing supporting documentation, and the failure of the medical staff to get proper preauthorization for a procedure--even though I made six phone calls to the doctor's office to ensure this was done. Dealing with the medical group was much more frustrating than with GEHA. Their agents were always helpful in telling me what was missing and how to secure what was needed to complete my claims for my surgical procedure. Their website is quite good to track progress on claims and is very user friendly.
Better value -service than BC/BS, December, 2018
I'm a very satisfied customer. I switched from BC/BS to GEHA about 10 years ago for self and family because my monthly premiums were substantially lower. The coverage is very similar to BC, and I've found getting information and answers from GEHA is easier. Three years ago, I was diagnosed with heart disease and had to have triple bypass surgery; my hospital bill was $275,000 after the first week! I hit my policy's catastrophic cap on the first day and from that point on 100% of my health care was covered for the rest of that year. GEHA is very solid coverage; use in-network providers.
Quality service with value, October, 2018
In the Texas Panhandle, options for reasonable family healthcare coverage in quality facilities is limited. GEHA takes measures to keep costs low, while not minimizing care and service to its members. My family’s coverage has been with GEHA for over 10 years, and I am sure they will be at the top in future comparisons.
Er visit, April, 2020
During the Covid epidemic I became quite sick. I called my provider and they informed me that they were not seeing patients at this time and told me if I needed to be seen to go to the Er. Now I have received a bill for 900$. I was diagnosed with pneumonia and told that there was a 99.9% chance that I have covid but since there is no treatment for the covid they were not going to test and just treat the pneumonia. If they would of tested me and I was positive, GEHA would have paid for my visit without question. ( this is what the rep told me) The first rep told me to have the hospital billing company recode to an urgent care visit or a dr visit. This is fraud!!! GEHA will do nothing to help me. I am a nurse and when I went to the Er my SAT was 74% and they discharged me at 84%..the dr would not even come into my room and talked to me from the center of the hallway. They never put oxygen on me and discharged me ASAP so they didn't have to be around me. (1 hr fastest er visit I have ever seen) and now I have to pay 900$. WORST hospital and WORST insurance ever!!!
ABSOLUTELY the worst, January, 2020
I paid for years. No problem.
Then I used insurance for the first time this year. They:
-get on phone n say they will cover your emergency. Make this statement to me n to the ER. Sent a ref #. Then Backtrack a week later. DISGUSTINGLY SLEEZY
- They have delayed my imaging thus delaying my therapy. DRAG their feet n lie.
- $25k/year premium fir WHAT???
- has I save that money over them years I could have paid for my care w cash n have NO DELAY.
- if I DELAY PAYMEMG OF PREMIUM. You know they would have a lot to say.
- now the have my money they DELAY SERVICE.
- I suffer in pain and loss of function of my arm while the DLEEZE continues. That’s One way to make a profit.
- The most disgusting experience.

Worst insurance ever. They don’t pay very well on claims. Went with the highest option for better coverage. What a joke. I have had more dental bills to pay than ever in my life. Do yourself a favor stay away from this company.

I paid premiums for over 20 years I will not pay much longer I had to have 6 teeth pulled I called before and was told oh yea its covered after it was done they only paid for extraction and said sedation was not medically necessary what who can get 6 teeth pulled without sedation once again an insurance co finding ways not to pay shameful I will change during open season Calling OPM also maybe if enough people call they will not support GEHA.
