their policy: tough, we alredy got your money, October, 2014
AVOID THEM. LIKE THE PLAGUE. If you have plague, you'll still want to avoid
them, because odds are they'll argue with you about it endlessly and hope
you die before your claim gets done.
I had catastrophic with them for 10 years, never cost them a cent.
Overnight they triple my rates, never bother to call. Yes, they sent a
letter, but it looks exactly like every other age-step increase letter.
So I didn't read it. I called them up as soon as I realized the situation
and asked if they would like to refund the increase out of a sense of decency
to a long-time customer whose given them $10000+ and never claimed a cent.
Well guess what, they don't have any sense of decency. They don't give
a rip about their reputation (its already terrible, as you will see if you
compare reviews). Insurance companies with this general strategy deny claims.
They contest treatments in contravention of their contract,
and make you go to court sick or dying if you want to get them to pay. Its a
*deliberate* strategy with your more scummy insurance companies, and these
guys definitely qualify as scum. I strongly suggest you look elsewhere.

I bought a washer / dryer from Home Depot with an extended policy from Assurant. When the washer broke, I call Assurant. Without even looking at my washer, they told me my problem wasnâ€™t covered. I convinced them to look at the washer. The washer was in a utility room behind my house which they told me violated the warranty. In reality they never had any intention to repair the washer. I was promised a full refund for the washer and dryer policy. I paid $199. The sent $38. Every person that I spoke to was rude and ignorant. I believe that their business model is to write the policy and do everything they can not to fulfill the terms of the policy. Home Depot no longer does business with them.
Company does not pay physician claims, February, 2015
I am a physician who diagnosed a patient with cancer. Despite multiple claims submitted, Assurant does not pay claims. I keep getting multiple requests for records, which have been responded to. Customer service is in India, and when you call, you get a circular conversation regarding the patient needing to send in an authorization for medical records to be released (they already have the records). Stay away from this company at all costs!

my policy jumped from 288.00 to 321.00, much to high of a price hike. I didn't have a choice of insurance companies and it looks like I have had highway robbery done to myself!! I am just a stupid person trying to have a half decent place without having to worry about landlords no taking care of their places and having renters go without a toilet or shower for more than a week! soon persons making less than 33,000.00 in the U.S. will have to live in cardboard shack like people in Haiti!!

All I wanted to do was go from a yearly billing, to monthly billing. Took 4 phone calls and they still screwed it up. Asked for supervisor and after 35 minutes on hold was told no supervisors were available.
Poor business practices and as soon as I can I will be changing.

I have had multiple issues with my plan. Starting out with the fact that they said my newborn son wasn't born in the US so they kicked him off the insurance about 6 months in. Turns out someone typed in his social security number which waved red flags. After 2 months he finally was added back on. Only to find out that the plan we were originally on no longer existed so it was a fight to get him the original plan my husband and I were on. After all the problems I cancelled the insurance on 8/28, no payment was drafted in September but then in October I received a letter the week of 10/19 stating they were going to pull money for my insurance out 10 days from the date of the letter which was from October 7th! My account was over drafted, which put a pause on me refinancing my house, and no money left in my account with a one year old who needs formula. When I called to talk to a manger I spoke to a women named Joyce, who pretty much told me there was nothing she can do. I'm not going to get my money back, and that it wasn't her problem I would need to call someone else. If that is the management department that they are working with everyone is in trouble. If Joyce doesn't like to try and help people she should look into a different profession other then customer service. I have never been more disappointed with any company in my life. I 100% don't suggest using Assurant ever! Unless you like rude people.

Assurant will discontinue coverage in KS for 2016 and I am looking for insurance quotes and coverage. My premiums are paid by my husband's private disability insurance.
