    claims disaster, January, 2015

    in my policy it states any time damage occurs i have to call them, well everytime to report any damage to them they wanted to send out an adjuster to my house, what i did not know or was told is that they counted that as a claim, and I was never paid out but the adjusting company was paid in the amounts of 3 thousand dollars. This prevented me from getting any policy from any other company and was forced to stay with this company. When I had water come into my basement I called the company and had adjusters out at the house, I was told that they were going to cover me and all of the sudden i got a letter in the mail stating that they were not going to cover me and they wanted the checks they issued me back, I raised a stink about this and they told me that for the inconvenience I could keep the checks. I started doing some research on the company to find out that this is a common practice of theirs, they have been fined in the State of Kansas by the department of insurance for their practices, in my opinion they pry on service members and do not care about us and they should not be in business. they are rude to you over the phone and very unprofessional. DO NOT BE APART OF THIS COMPANY

    40 years as a customer. Will deny any claim, September, 2015

    I've been an AFI customer for almost 40 years and I am now switching insurance carriers. Recently they have denied hail and wind claims while all of my neighbors claims were easily recognized and covered by a number of other major insurance companies. Customer Service Reps are friendly but don't be fooled. Underwriting is very difficult to work with regarding claims. They will find a reason to deny your claim. When I started shopping around to check the market for another insurance carrier I discovered on my own I had been paying way too much for my AFI policies. When I asked AFI about it, I found they knew they could have saved me dollars but did not inform me until I pointed out to them that I was going to another insurance company due to the difference in the other company's higher policy coverage and lower premium cost as well as overwhelmingly positive customer feedback as the primary reasons. I've chosen to go with the other company and will save almost $1,000 per year across all policies. I sent a note to the AFI Chairman's on-line link asking him for a reply about my concerns. Even as an almost 40 year member I did not receive the courtesy of a reply other than the automated message stating my email had been received. I am leaving AFI as a long term customer with a very bad taste for their service, and their rates. They charge more than other insurance companies, they take your money, and they will find a reason to deny a claim. They do not live up to their motto of: "Our Mission Is You".

    Poor customer service, June, 2015

    Filed a damage claim and was denied due to the previous home owners not installing something correctly. There was no way of knowing this prior to purchase of our home without our home inspector cutting out a large portion of the garage ceiling. Had he done that during the inspection we would have known that our shower would eventually leak and cause serious damage. If we had done something wrong I would understand the denial but we had no knowledge until the damage was done. Cancelled policy and went elsewhere. Would not recommend this company to anyone.

    CRAP!, August, 2016

    Haven't even been in my house for two months yet and received a notice they are going to cancel my insurance because I haven't fixed everything that was found during the initial inspection. Things like 1) not enough insulation in the attic. 2) A damaged piece of siding. 3) Deck needing painting. Basically has nothing to do with the overall structure of the house. Underwriting for this company is a joke. I just laughed when I got the notice and called another insurance company that didn't have its head up their butt. Also found out that AFI has nothing to do with the military. I HIGHLY recommend using another company. After doing some research it appears they will fight you tooth and nail on any claim. Not really sure how they are still in business. And I wouldn't want to file a claim when they are about to shut down because they don't have the money to pay? I will definitely be writing a letter to the VA about them along with the American Legion and the VFW.

    Buyer beware, June, 2016

    I've been paying premiums for 11+ years and they denied my first claim on the policy for something that 3 other carriers said was a no-brainer payout. I think they stay in business with low premiums, but God help you if you have something bad happen.

    THIS COMPANY IS SHADY! IT NEEDS A BIG FAT 0!, November, 2016

    Wait until you hear how they dicked over this family!!!

    We filed a water claim. Code blue hired a company to come out and check our damage. We had to hire our own plumbing company (out of pocket) to find the source of what is causing the damage. Finally a week later the mitigation comes out and explains how they got the approval to start mitigation from CODE BLUE who was Given the GO AHEAD FROM AFI! So that evening Mitigation comes in and starts tearing up the room with damage - takes down all furniture and starts ripping up carpet -- I GET A CALL 1 HOUR INTO our mitigation (who was given the approval) From my AFI representative saying OUR POLICY DOES NOT COVER THIS!!!!! And to have mitigation STOP. The mitigation company picked up all their stuff and has left us with a bedroom with carpet cut out and a room almost empty while everything else was boxed up!!!

    Looks like we are going to have to get a lawyer involved..

    STAY AWAY FROM THIS CRAPPY NO GOOD COMPANY!!

    Way too expensive, January, 2016

    In one year my yearly rates nearly tripled without so much as a notification. I called and the agent tried to give me a sob story about how the company is paying out more in claims than they are receiving. I live in oregon and there are no hurricanes or tsunami disasters... And after reading the reviews i bet they werent paying out nearly as much as they claimed. I now save about 800 a year with another company.

    Term insurance will expire at age 70, March, 2016

    This has been a great company for military members and retirees. I want a policy that covers me until 80, so I am looking elsewhere because this policy ends in 4 years.

    They do not answer phone. Offered 10 times less , June, 2017

    Last April a huge tree blew down and damaged outbuilding on my mom's property, and crushed/destroyed a utility trailer.

    I live next door and also have AFI insurance. Mom is 85 years old and lives in a hospital bed, so I filed the claim for her.

    Free lance adjuster arrived after a week and took pics and made measurements.

    AFI after a month sent check for 700 bucks to repair her outbuilding and replace trailer that was totally destroyed....Mom has REPLACEMENT VALUE insurance with 500 buck deductable!!!!!...The trailer alone cost well over$2000!!!!!

    Her outbuilding has bad roof damage and two soffets ripped off, and very large oak tree laying it, but AFI said they will not cover it!!!

    AFI no longer answers their phone !!!!

    I am hiring an attorney to sue them !!!!...and I swear I will sue them deep !!!

    Myself and my mom have had their insurance for well over 20 years and they treat us like garbage !!! And their insurance ain't cheap !!!! We have paid them huge money over all these years !!!

    AFI has turned corporate and started acting big city...My mother has never had a claim with them !!!!!...She is laying in a hospital bed and near death, but they refuse to pay to repair her property !!!!

    BAD FAITH CRUEL PEOPLE, July, 2017

    the check you paid Suntrust Mortgage co. for damages you incorrectly assessed as being in an upstairs bathroom which does not exist on my single level house shows incompetence from the beginning.

    I've gone above and beyond my responsibilities to this claim, however, these adjusters (who have ignored and failed take responsible action/return calls / do what they say) Unfortunately you acted in a cruel and malicious manner to my family throwing us into the street from the hotel, in 120 degree heat with no warning, justifying your actions based on assumptions, Follow your own policies and rules!

    I am broke, have no home, no clothing for myself /my family, we now do not even have the food that was in our hotel, thanks to your cruel and malicious act forced us to vacate into extreme summer heat. Knowing we have exhausted thousands of dollars already and you have not provided us with so much as one cent as of yet, but made certain you got your payment from us.

    Why do you feel you have the right to intentionally inflict this upon me and my family in our time of desperation, when we call on you to provide for us the things for which our contract stipulates and you promised in our contract? This is what is called "Bad Faith".

    unprofessional scumbags and that's being nice!, January, 2015

    If I could rate below 1 I would. Did not negotiate in good faith. Could care less about military families. Customer service sucks from the top down which includes the president. How they stay in business is beyond me!

    And this is how they treated the family of a 100% disabled vet.

    Spread the word so they go out of business....

    Watch Out, May, 2014

    Filed a claim for obvious roof damage, 85% of homes had damage in subdivision after storm, and roofs replaced. Showed adjuster inside ceiling stains / damage in several areas due to leaks. Claim was denied, I paid $7,840 out of my pocket for the new roof. Inside ceiling work also paid by me. Watch Out!

    Homeowners Claim for hail damage, March, 2015

    Please avoid this company. Easy to collect premiums, but do not ever have to file a claim. They will hire people to say your claim is not valid. No matter how reputable the company or their estimates. Pay more and find a company that will back the policy they write. You owe that to yourself. I prefer to give zero stars, but this submitted forces you to rate with at least one star.

    Dropped After 6 years, January, 2013

    Had policy with AFI for 6 years with no claims. AFI did a review, decided they didn't want to cover the house in New Orleans and they dropped me with 30 days notice. Armed Forces Insurance is one of those companies that put Armed Forces or Military in their name, but it's really just a marketing gimmick. I have had better luck with main stream insurance companies - don't be sucked in.

    Stay away, April, 2013

    Beware of this company. I had them for several years with no problems until I had a claim. When I submitted a claim everything changes, it takes forever to get your money and then they act like you are a high risk. Their claim is to "protect people who protect our nation", but in reality - they don't. I would hate to be deployed leaving my wife to deal with their crap! STAY AWAY

    Completely dishonest company. Approved our claim And then didn't communicate for months before finally sending a letter saying after another review the claim is being denied. This isn't our first headache with this company. Go anywhere else! Supporting the armed forces....yeah right.

    This company will go to any lengths to deny your claim. They are using the armed forces for profit and leaving us high and dry.     Uncaring. Stay away from AFI., December, 2015

    As a 30+ year member of Armed Forces Insurance, I have opted to go with another company that genuinely cares about its policy holders. With just two small claims as an AFI homeowner insurance policyholder in those 30+ years and the second claim filed over 20 years ago, AFI let me down when I recently filed a claim. "We value your membership" translates into "We value your insurance premium payment" and that's all. AFI's parting comment "We're sorry to see you go" really means "We're sorry to lose the timely payment you've made for many years." AFI's poor Customer Relationship Management has now become a case study for my college marketing classes. My business students, especially those with a mlitary background, are paying attention to AFI's uncaring CRM attitude toward its longtime customers. AFi's absence of empathy and lack of support toward its steadfast members is appalling - and disappointing. Customer/brand loyalty count for nothing and AFI's performance is surely not that of a premium brand image as the company would want prospective customers along with current members to believe. Bottom Line: Stay away from AFI.

    Unethical Claims Review, July, 2013

    "Buyer Beware", of this company. Nearly a decade with no problems until I had a claim.I believe AFI are unethical in how they handle claims and do not represent what the US Armed Forces stand for. Look elsewhere for insurance is my reccomendation..

    This Ins company does nothing but collect premiums but you never get anything back after 10 years of paying for insurance. They twice have rejected roof replacement because they want to screw consumers and the Armed Forces members.

    Crooks--- STAY AWAY, April, 2015

    These people are crooks--- They will deny your claim. They send some engineer out to inspect my property after my roof collapsed after 6 inches of snow and 3 inches of ice. Lots of roofs in the area had the same issue at the time. When asked for a copy of the engineers report, I was denied a copy. I have turned this matter over to the Insurance board.

    I shop our insurance every couple of years. Although my rates have increased a couple of times, the quotes from other companies were inline with what AFI charges. The deciding factor for me is always the personal service. I get to talk to the same agent every time.

    Long term satisfied customer, June, 2014

    Have had various coverages through AFI since 1969 (personal effects floaters, renter's insurance, high value items). When my roof was damaged by a hurricane near-miss, a phone call got a commitment to pay for temporary repairs. A claims adjuster showed up within 3 days and he authorized payment in full for a complete roof replacement despite the fact that the roof was then 15 years old. AFI has covered the loss of two laptop computers stolen from my children's college dorm rooms. Most importantly, after Katrina, when many insurers began boosting rates and dropping coverage of homeowners in hurricane danger areas (Norfolk/Virginia Beach) AFI did not drop me or hit me with major rate increases. I have been completely satisfied with AFI coverage for 45 years.

    STAY AWAY, May, 2015

    AFI will go through all lengths to lie to you and deny your claim or do as little as they have to and keep your claim under your deductible. They will lie to you during your claim and say they are not responsible for further damage after an approved repair/claim, but the repair will do more damage than the repair itself and wipe their hands of it due to "age" and nothing else. BE CAREFUL and get a company that actually stands for our Veterans, THIS IS NOT A VETERAN FRIENDLY INSURANCE COMPANY. I understand everyone has to make a profit to stay in business, but when you do injustice everyday and not understand how insurance is supposed to work, you should not be an insurance company. HI FIVE to making profits and screwing over customers with legitimate claims.----NOT

    Bait and Switch Tactics, January, 2018

    I had a terrible experience with Mr. Andrew Asher who baited me to allowing for AFI to perform a credit check on me to qualify for a homeowners insurance policy which was denied and then tried selling me a renters insurance policy!!! Stay away!

    AFI is one of the worst! misleading this company targets military personnel and any claim you file will be disastrous for you and your family. They use the name Armed Forces Insurance because military personnel are easy targets for payment of their policies. If you file a claim you will pay for it dearly. What a rip off for military personnel.

    will not honor claims as advertised, May, 2017

    I've had my house insured by Armed Forces Insurance for over 10 years and a few years ago, I had storm damage to the roof of my house. I filed a claim with Armed Forces to get the damage fixed on my house. They sent an adjuster from Idaho to come look at my roof. He claimed up on the roof and immediately proceeded to inform me that they weren't going to honor the claim because I had a piece of flashing installed incorrectly when I had the house reshingled last. He then proceeded to tell me about how he had owned a roofing business for 20 years prior to becoming an adjuster and that he knew the flashing was installed incorrectly and that I needed to go back on the company that installed my roofing at that time. Roofing companies come and go and they're unfortunately out of business. I've since noticed a lot of water damage in that area of my house and am a disabled veteran and cant't afford to have the damage fixed nor am I able to climb up on the roof to fix it myself. Since then, I've had a person climb up and attempt to stop the damage but no luck with the repairs.I then contacted the insurance commission of Kansas and was told that if its in there declaration book then they don't have to honor the claim. My question is, What Declaration Book? I've never received anything of the sort from them since my original purchase of their insurance. Since then, I've had a person climb up and attempt to stop the damage but no luck with the repairs.IThis is going to cost a considerable amount to repair and I would like to file a complaint with SOMEONE in attempt the get the damage fixed as I still own the house, but was forced to purchase another residence to live in and now have two mortgages. Armed Forces has since dropped coverage on my house because I don't occupy the residence anymore.

    Asbolutley horrible, February, 2017

    Worst inshurance company ever and they say there here to help veterans . Bought my house about a year ago called in a claim for my roof. Inspector came out he was great he agreed i had some storm damage and would need a new roof , AFI denied my claim said was a preexsiting condition of my house which i had inspected then they sent out an engenier who came out and said my roof was fine but yet my roof is leeking all they do is deni claims and keep your money horrible company would not recomend to a dog if i could

    Denial of claims at every opportunity , February, 2017

    Tried to file 3 claims

    1. my house was broken into. Insurance would not cover jewelry which was stolen (that's supplimental coverage).

    2. Water coming into the garage from recent rains due to foundation issue. Not covered.

    3. Sewer line collapsed and backed into house. They don't cover the line or the damage to the house - I would have needed to add that as supplemental coverage.

    what am I paying for?? If I was not required to have insurance I would drop it all together.

    Wind Damage Claim, April, 2018

    Had damage to our roof from a major wind storm. Would only pay for half of my roof. The shingles on my roof are no longer available so I had no choice but to install a new roof. Insurance company offered us around $1000 to pay for entire new roof. Neighbors with the same amount of damage and same type of roof were completely covered by their insurance companies. Switching companies immediately. This was actually considered a disaster area and AFI really dropped the ball here in an emergency situation. DO NOT USE THEM.
