    Avoid Amerigroup!, December, 2016

Our practice accepts Amerigroup and I can honestly say that patients with this insurance do not receive equal treatment to patients with better insurance. Amerigroup routinely denies payment on treatments and tests that other insurance providers cover without any problems. Amerigroup's pre-authorization and appeals process is oriented to deny or delay treatment and patients end up having to pay the price medically and financially. Their business practices have cost our practice tens of thousands of dollars in denied payments, and even after working with their provider relations representatives they continued to deny payment even when they acknowledged that patient care would suffer as a a result. We only accept this plan so that referring doctors can more easily send us all their patients. There are better plans for a similar price out there. Don't choose this one.

Do not chose this insurance, August, 2016

You will NOT find any specialist that accept this insurance. I called EVERY physical therapist on their list and NONE of them accepted their insurance or treated adults. The same thing happened when I needed a dermatologist. Every time you call to get help finding a doctor, they give the same outdated information that is on the website. I am on hold when them right now as I had to insist that they call the doctors before they just give me another name. The last guy called first but forgot to ask if the Dr accepts adults. Guess it just "slipped his mind to ask". When you get done dealing with them you will need psychiatric care. It is simply not worth the stress, chose a different insurance.

Amerigroup is a scam, July, 2017

Providers will not schedule appointments, and amerigroup will not authorize prescriptions. We have tried numerous times for months to fill life giving insulin for type 1 DM and had to go to ER to get emergency prescription.

    Horrible, July, 2017

Absolutely wretched. We are going through a challenging time as a family of 4. Hubby has had good jobs for years, but had to leave job. Next job fell through. We have been barely scraping by, needing a little help, but doing our best to get through this time and provide for ourselves through consulting work, etc. Medicaid was unavoidable, unfortunately. so far, absolutely zero doctors take amerigroup, although the website says they do. a few doctors who claimed to take it over the phone, with careful questions from ourselves to verify, have resulted in 2 hour drives out to clinics, onyl to find out they can not help us. Now, dear wife is out of anti-anxiety medication. going through withdrawals and getting depressed. no one will help. this is awful.

    OMG, December, 2017

I had really bad experience with this company, I do not know why those company still exist, still treat customers such a garbage. I talked to customer service girl, Toni on the phone for 30 minutes, she still did not know what she is doing with me, keep asking same question over over for 30 minutes, such waisting time, such a garbage company. So frustrated. I read reviews about this company i found this review exactly same as mine. I Amerigroup is not insurance. It is like having no insurance. Nobody accepts this insurance! Their provider list is totally out of date and inaccurate. When I first saw their provider list I was excited to see so many in my area. When I started calling the list is when I found out that none of the doctors on the list were currently accepting Amerigroup insurance or the doctors on the list were no longer even at the stated clinic anymore. Basically the few places that do accept this insurance are walk in clinics. I finally found a PCP who accepts this insurance that wasn't a walk in clinic, but every time he refers me for a procedure I can't find a specialist who will accept this insurance plan so I can never get the treatments I need! They should call this company LIMBO insurance because all it does is put patients in limbo.

Alana Nelson health care coordinator is a fraud, July, 2017

This company is a nightmare, they have cut me off needed prescriptions some formulary clause.Health care coordinator is a lair, has done nothing she said would do. Now tells me it is my job to try and figure out this mess. I am not in the health care industry, don't have a clue how to navigate through this disaster they call healthcare. Meanwhile I'm left to suffer cronic conditions that are life or death with no help. Shame on you Amerigroup you are heartless and cruel.

Don't choose this company for anything!, January, 2017

We were involuntarily placed by Washington state Medicaid with Amerigroup without notice. We had been with Molina for many years, and were shocked to find that Amerigroup was involved now. I have a severely disabled daughter. I was very disturbed to find out that Amerigroup did not pay for a therapy provider that my daughter had been covered for almost five years through other Medicaid managed care plans. We do get to change back to Molina effective the first of next month, which does cover this therapist and many other useful providers. I also found that Amerigroup has very few general practice providers either. The pediatric clinic where my daughter has been going (with other Medicaid managed care plans) for nearly 14 years, isn't covered by Amerigroup either. I have looked on the internet since finding out about Amerigroup, and see that plenty of other people report having crappy experiences with them as well. If you have ANY other choice for a Medicaid plan, you should probably reject Amerigroup and chose another provider. I am in Washington, and it appears that Amerigroup handles everything out of Virginia. You will probably do much better with a Medicaid plan like Molina, which has MANY years of successful work in Washington (and many other states) and at least has a local office in Washington (and probably in all or most of the other states that they serve as well).

Insurance Sucks - Avoid at all cost, January, 2018

My mom has Amerigroup through Medicaid - she was admitted to the hospital in November 2017 because she had UTI which gave her Alter Mental Status. The hospital/doctor put her on heavy sedatives for multiple days which affected her balance and her mobility. While I was at work I got a call from the hospital telling me that the insurance company did not approve her claim do rehab and that they were discharging her that day. I got home and they brought her home with the ambulance and to my surprise she was not able to walk at all. To give you some other perspective she had a stroke back in July and we have been waiting for a home aid since August 2017. So the next day I had to take off from work to stay with her. I left her alone for 2 mins and she fell and hit her head and ended up at the hospital again. When I called the insurance company they told me that denial was routine practice and that the health care provider had to appeal but because she was disharged an appeal was no longer possible. Back to the hospital and after multiple try she ended up in rehab. In the meantime we were still working on getting her home health care. 3 weeks in rehab and they were discharging her agin because of insurance denial. Meanwhile my mom was not able to walk alone and had no stability. I called the insurance company and was in the phone for 6 hours to tel me that I had to appeal. But because we were appealing on Friday they didn’t have to review the appeal until Monday and the discharge was still happening. So I brought my mom home, even though it was clear she needed 24/7 care. Called the insurance company multiple times so that they can tel me they still haven’t found an agency that can staff the 5 hours a day that they approved. This past Friday my mom fell and broke her wrist and hip. This insurance company has no compassion or empathy. Do not subscribe with them. There is no doctor, nursing home or rehab that accepts this insurance. They are a Scam.

Horrible! Avoid them like the PLAGUE!!, May, 2017

I chose Amerigroup because the obgyn I'd gone to before told me to so I could be seen by them. This is the WORSE Insurance company I've ever dealt with. I have been denied six times for basic dental care. They have sent me letters explaining denials with the "option" of requesting another authorization only two deny it once again. As a result of them being cheap, I have been living with an infected tooth that has been ailing me for four months. This "Insurance" company is nothing short of a scam. I even had to write the state congressman to address this issue. I am on state Medicaid as a result of being low income. I have had many doctors bills sent to me multiple times due to on Amerigroup rejecting the bills. They have intentionally did not find me and delay coverage knowing it is hard on my health. They are terrible. They know they're scam artists because they do not have a direct number you can call to appeals. AVOID THEM!!

    Extremely Incompetent, February, 2018

They have no concern for their patient's health needs. They think they know better than two doctors and a pulmonologist on what inhaler I should use! They have the guts to take me off a medication that's been working for me very well for years! Very frustrating because I've finally been able to exercise and be active after years of adjusting my medication and having constant asthma attacks, only to have them decide they know better than health professionals! They are only guided by the dollar. Now I have to go through another 6 months of different meds and dosages and asthma attacks to be allowed back in the medications that work for me. I hate them, they are incompetent, and you should never never ever use this company! They don't even deserve one star!

    Nightmare to navigate…, December, 2017

Nightmare to navigate…I have a toothache and I am looking for a dentist. You would think that’s simple enough.Amierigroup gives you a computer generated lists of dentists that you can barely understand. You’re actually supposed to sit there and listen to the computer spew off 15 different dentist. I had not a clue about how to decide which one would be right for my specific situation. MedSTAR was so much better… Just an amazing company extremely helpful and supportive, exactly what an insurance company should be. Now we’re stuck with Amerigroup for five years… Nightmare

    Terrible experience , September, 2018

They just cancelled my insurance after I booked an appointment for my eyes. I called them to find out why my insurance has cancelled. All of the representatives gave me different numbers to call. After talking to 3 or 4 representatives, finally someone told me it’s cancelled because you didn’t fill up your paper works. .I’m not sure if I have ever received that. Honestly not all of the representatives but some of them were so rude. Finally they transferred me to a different department but they were closed so, I left a message . Today is Friday. I have to wait 2 business day until they call me. Let’s say they call me on Tuesday. It’s going to take 2 businesses day to send me the paper works. Then it’s weekend.they are going to receive my letter by next next monday. Then they should approve it and send me another letter. Then I have to book a new doctor appointment which is going to take 2 week after Calling them. I wish they have sent me a letter and told me why before canceling my insurance.

They refuse to approve surgery for the fourth time.

They make up new excuses to Deni service.

They are my secondary insurance. Maybe a GoFundMe page would help.

The spend more on administration cost than health care to subscribers.

Protected Health Information Denied, October, 2018

October 1,2018 called Amerigroup Star Plus Medicaid requesting copy of my Protected Health Information(PHI). I was told baloney answer that PHI was only name and address information. I replied more than that info but got same baloney reply. They had me on hold getting crony,& more info. Amerigroup still stated PHI only name address type info. So I requested a letter from Amerigroup stating ,here is the PHI info in writing, with whatever info they DID have. (That way I would have proof I requested it AND did not receive the info). Then I wad told again there is no PHI info and Amerigroup would not send me letter. Then lady on phone says suddenly could not understand me talking as phone connection muggy. Baloney. Then hung up. Probably Amerigroup medicaid records will not document I even requested a PHI. They do not want to disclose the baloney they know is in PHI to me, and the missing significant medical facts, uhhh my only humble opinion is. I do not fit any criteria at all,in the do not give PHI to categories. This is Amerigroup medicaid.A big fat zero. I did not ask to be on Amerigroup or medicaid, it came with federal medical disability. Cannot get off of it! Be better off in a scarce indigent clinic for the 3 meds I take for physical condition. Indigent clinics do nothing else if you need health care more than about just getting the 3 meds same like Amerigroup medicaid. But at least taxpayers are not payrolling these unscrupulous staff in these Amerigroup and medicaid outfits!

    The Worst , September, 2018

After calling to the number on the card, the agent gave me a new number to call. I called to the new number and the new agent gave me another new number. It happened three more times. Today I called to the last number that I have got and after staying behind the line for 30 minutes , the agent said, We don’t have your file here. After talking to 5 different agents, I still couldn’t find a person to tell me why my insurance got cancelled. They even can’t find it. The agents needs just to say Hi how are you and say have a good day at the end of the phone call. They don’t need to talk the way tht they wanna hang up asap to get rid of you.

avoid, like the plague, May, 2018

Horrible service when calling to talk to an MD for Peer to Peer. Feel like a rock rolling off a cliff. Get bounced from one operator to another, and after a hold, *each* asking me to spell name, number, fax number NPI, patient's ID, and then I got to leave all this info and my number for someone to call me back. And all this for a necessary drug for a patient that is being frivolously denied.
