The American National Family of Companies (also known as American National Insurance) has been in business for over 100 years. The company was founded in Galveston, Texas in 1905 by William L. Moody, Junior. Over the last century, American National expanded to include various types of insurance, all designed so that employers can offer their employees the affordable insurance products.

Poor cost vs benefit. When time to pay difficult to wrk with. Would not recommend this company. Go with Mutual instead! Much better value and service

I have found American National to be unpleasant to deal with. The latest problem, they added my unlicensed teen daughter as a principal driver to my policy without my knowledge. Overall I’ve experienced very poor customer service as of the past several years. It’s definitely time to change companies.

When my husband died, they worked with the funeral home and payment was fast and they paid the funeral costs from the check so I did not have to write that check. It made a hard time easier for me.

You get what you pay for. I would not make the mistake of going with American National again. I have left them for another carrier due to poor claim handling.

I been a client of American National for over 10 years and am very happy. We've had a few claims and they've always taken care of us. The rates are great and they offer checks back for staying claim free. My agent's office is nice to work with!

I have been with this company for about 11 years and never had to file a claim. My renewal just came in the mail, however, and they are raising my rates by $200. The agent has been good to work with, but it looks like it is time to look at other options.

This company will lie to you when buying into a policy. They are always trying to sell life insurance or they get fired. Their workers are dishonest and only back up the company. They have stolen plenty of money from people I know. They should be ashamed of themselves. We the consumers need to put this company out of business!

Been a customers for over 30 yrs and when you need repairs it's a struggle to get them and you have to fight the whole time. Rates keep going up every years. We wouldn't recommend them. Look somewhere else!

Growing up in Texas, American National was THE insurance company. I wanted to buy a life insurance policy online without an exam and had no idea about ANICODirect.com. I did a ton of searching and I think they may be the only carrier to sell life insurance completely online without having to talk to a broker (don't let any of the search ads fool you because you'll just have agents calling you.) It was as quick and easy buying shoes online.

I have held an American National life insurance policy for years. Their web site is like something from the very earliest days of the internet. It's horrible to navigate and paying your bill online is virtually impossible. It never recognizes my username and password and the policy number ON MY DOCUMENTATION from American National is NEVER recognized on their site. So I called several times to pay my premium and couldn't hold any longer on all calls (held for more than 30 minutes on each). Finally MAILED a check still in good time. Took them WEEKS to cash the check but finally they did. Then they sent me a letter telling me that my insurance was canceled pending reinstatement. I called again hoping to reinstate over the phone and held for 47 minutes. When I finally got through I was told reinstatement couldn't be done over the phone but once they received my forms I should (hopefully) be reinstated within a MONTH. Thanks for NOTHING. They should get their money back from their web designer except he/she probably got paid in 1994 for their work and no updates have been done since then.

My mother who is 88 years old has five life insurance polices from American National. The last two years I have been trying to get her personal affairs in order. Communication with American National has been a nightmare. Voice mail hell greets you and takes several attempts to talk to correct person, when you do they are rude. Customer service is very poor.

Cancellation, January, 2014
They've been awesome, but we received a cancellation notice due to us living in the mountains with lots of trees. We rec'd the notice on 1/22 with a cancellation date of 3/13. Not much time to mitigate land in the area. Agent located in Co Spgs; guess she doesn't know it snows here in the winder time. Hard to mitigate very large trees in deep snow. Pretty ticked off.

American National is a first rate insurance company. When you have a claim they are very easy to work with and quick to settle with you. My home at the moment is with them but the cost of their insurance has gone up dramatically. Just checking for more affordable insurance.

I tried to get a quote from one of the reps. She asks if I'm looking to purchase insurance today. I tell her I can this Friday. As soon as she hears I'm not buying today, she simply hangs up on me. If that's how you conduct business, I don't want anything to do with your company. Screw her and screw that company.

My mom has been paying on this life insurance policy for years. Now that we are looking into all her paperwork, we are finding that this company is very outdated with no online reliable service and people still coming door to door to collect payments and handwriting monthly payments. Just awful to understand and they should be ashamed of themselves.

Honestly had the worst service with this company! I've been car-less for two months now and have yet to been helps or anyone done anything! I'm actually not insured with this company and thankful for that! But there person who's him me who's is insured with them have not been doing anything about this! I'm very disappointed in they help I have been getting with this company which is none!!! Would never suggest anyone to get this insurance!

Been with the company for 1 and half years and I have to say my experience was amazing with regards to handling claims. To make a long story short, they had me back to 100% right away. More than pleased.
Conservation Department is terrible, July, 2016
Recently scheduled to transfer my Palladium Multi-Year Guarantee Annuity to another investment company. Received a letter from the Conservation Department with a name and number to call in the hopes of keeping me a customer. I was actually thinking of staying with American National, however, I left three messages with the agent requesting a call back but never did receive one. If that's what customer service is like when they want to encourage you to stay a customer, you have to ask yourself what will it be like if you have an issue or claim? I have a low tolerance for that kind of service. Too many competitors out there for me to put up with that level of service. As you can imagine, that pretty much sealed my decision to make the change. All the agent had to do was return one of my three phone calls.

Customer service is not the best. A claim was filed against us and we didn't find out until almost a year after the fact. It was a 50/50 fault claim that we disputed. Little were we informed that it would be required of us to get hit with that claim. We paid out of pocket for our damage thinking our voices were heard. Had we known we were going to get hit with this, we would have filed the claim against the other party involved. Terrible customer service and client representation from my perspective!!! We will be switching insurance companies.
