    Poor cost vs benefit. When time to pay difficult to wrk with. Would not recommend this company. Go with Mutual instead! Much better value and service

    Poor customer service., March, 2018

    I have found American National to be unpleasant to deal with. The latest problem, they added my unlicensed teen daughter as a principal driver to my policy without my knowledge. Overall I’ve experienced very poor customer service as of the past several years. It’s definitely time to change companies.

    Speedy Payment, March, 2016

    When my husband died, they worked with the funeral home and payment was fast and they paid the funeral costs from the check so I did not have to write that check. It made a hard time easier for me.

    Very happy! , December, 2016

    I been a client of American National for over 10 years and am very happy. We've had a few claims and they've always taken care of us. The rates are great and they offer checks back for staying claim free. My agent's office is nice to work with!

    Dissatified, November, 2016

    Been a customers for over 30 yrs and when you need repairs it's a struggle to get them and you have to fight the whole time. Rates keep going up every years. We wouldn't recommend them. Look somewhere else!

    Big Premium Increase, August, 2012

    I have been with this company for about 11 years and never had to file a claim. My renewal just came in the mail, however, and they are raising my rates by $200. The agent has been good to work with, but it looks like it is time to look at other options.

    Horrible, November, 2017

    I tried to get a quote from one of the reps. She asks if I'm looking to purchase insurance today. I tell her I can this Friday. As soon as she hears I'm not buying today, she simply hangs up on me. If that's how you conduct business, I don't want anything to do with your company. Screw her and screw that company.

    Cancellation, January, 2014

    They've been awesome, but we received a cancellation notice due to us living in the mountains with lots of trees. We rec'd the notice on 1/22 with a cancellation date of 3/13. Not much time to mitigate land in the area. Agent located in Co Spgs; guess she doesn't know it snows here in the winder time. Hard to mitigate very large trees in deep snow. Pretty ticked off.

    Growing up in Texas, American National was THE insurance company. I wanted to buy a life insurance policy online without an exam and had no idea about ANICODirect.com. I did a ton of searching and I think they may be the only carrier to sell life insurance completely online without having to talk to a broker (don't let any of the search ads fool you because you'll just have agents calling you.) It was as quick and easy buying shoes online.

    American National is a first rate insurance company. When you have a claim they are very easy to work with and quick to settle with you. My home at the moment is with them but the cost of their insurance has gone up dramatically. Just checking for more affordable insurance.

    Shabby and Sketchy, July, 2015

    I have held an American National life insurance policy for years. Their web site is like something from the very earliest days of the internet. It's horrible to navigate and paying your bill online is virtually impossible. It never recognizes my username and password and the policy number ON MY DOCUMENTATION from American National is NEVER recognized on their site. So I called several times to pay my premium and couldn't hold any longer on all calls (held for more than 30 minutes on each). Finally MAILED a check still in good time. Took them WEEKS to cash the check but finally they did. Then they sent me a letter telling me that my insurance was canceled pending reinstatement. I called again hoping to reinstate over the phone and held for 47 minutes. When I finally got through I was told reinstatement couldn't be done over the phone but once they received my forms I should (hopefully) be reinstated within a MONTH. Thanks for NOTHING. They should get their money back from their web designer except he/she probably got paid in 1994 for their work and no updates have been done since then.

    Shop around, bad customer service, August, 2016

    My mother who is 88 years old has five life insurance polices from American National. The last two years I have been trying to get her personal affairs in order. Communication with American National has been a nightmare. Voice mail hell greets you and takes several attempts to talk to correct person, when you do they are rude. Customer service is very poor.

    Conservation Department is terrible, July, 2016

    Recently scheduled to transfer my Palladium Multi-Year Guarantee Annuity to another investment company. Received a letter from the Conservation Department with a name and number to call in the hopes of keeping me a customer. I was actually thinking of staying with American National, however, I left three messages with the agent requesting a call back but never did receive one. If that's what customer service is like when they want to encourage you to stay a customer, you have to ask yourself what will it be like if you have an issue or claim? I have a low tolerance for that kind of service. Too many competitors out there for me to put up with that level of service. As you can imagine, that pretty much sealed my decision to make the change. All the agent had to do was return one of my three phone calls.

    This company will lie to you when buying into a policy. They are always trying to sell life insurance or they get fired. Their workers are dishonest and only back up the company. They have stolen plenty of money from people I know. They should be ashamed of themselves. We the consumers need to put this company out of business!

    Very Sketchy!, March, 2017

    My mom has been paying on this life insurance policy for years. Now that we are looking into all her paperwork, we are finding that this company is very outdated with no online reliable service and people still coming door to door to collect payments and handwriting monthly payments. Just awful to understand and they should be ashamed of themselves.

    Terrible !!!! , July, 2017

    Honestly had the worst service with this company! I've been car-less for two months now and have yet to been helps or anyone done anything! I'm actually not insured with this company and thankful for that! But there person who's him me who's is insured with them have not been doing anything about this! I'm very disappointed in they help I have been getting with this company which is none!!! Would never suggest anyone to get this insurance!

    had claim 4-27-2017 closed claim out without my knowing.10-30-17. open claim back up but will not return calls for weeks. had to threaten to call ins commission in my state plus file with bbb. they owe me thousands of dollars plus they will lie and try to confuse you. find another co. or youll be sick.

    Customer service is not the best. A claim was filed against us and we didn't find out until almost a year after the fact. It was a 50/50 fault claim that we disputed. Little were we informed that it would be required of us to get hit with that claim. We paid out of pocket for our damage thinking our voices were heard. Had we known we were going to get hit with this, we would have filed the claim against the other party involved. Terrible customer service and client representation from my perspective!!! We will be switching insurance companies.

    Make sure you know what you are buying in homeowne, October, 2018

    Make sure your agent explains your homeowners policy ,when you buy it. I had a breakin in my house and garage . They stole everything , from my first truck too everything in my house and garage worth anything . I have PTSD and this put me into a total withdrawal . You have serious trouble dealing with anything like this, when you have PTSD .I have lived in my house since 1976 . I have never had a problems with people stealing anything until now. It was so difficult for me to even call American National to make a claim . When I called , they put me through the ringer with all I needed to do to complete a claim .They were so difficult , that I went ito totally depression and withdrawal . I couldn’t complete the paper work so American National refused payment and dropped my claim . This is a big money loss but I would rather loss it all , than deal with American Nationals claims Dept. . I get totally sick when dealing with them . They are NOT VETTERAN ORIENT ,so Veterans do not deal with these people . .Customer service is horrible . I wasn’t aware I had a time restriction on filing a claim . I became petrified and couldn’t deal with all their crap so this company dropped my claim and refused payment . I would rather pay a lot more money and feel at easy dealing with the company .

    Buyer Beware!, September, 2018

    This review goes for life, home and auto insurance, because I've had all three through ANICO/ANPAC. Dealing with them for claims is a nightmare. They continually disrespect the customer; leaving the agent to deal with the fall out.

    Here are some examples of the "features" (LOL) of ANPAC/ANICO insurance.

    Available representatives are R-U-D-E and almost never have a clue

    Anyone that might have a clue is never available

    Phone answering trees seem useless and waste time

    Completing a phone answering tree is likely to result in leaving a voice mail; they rarely call back

    Expect to be on hold FOREVER

    Stated items conveniently left off ("overlooked") the claim

    Customers N-E-V-E-R qualify for the lowest auto rate even if they have an 800+ credit score. I was told by an ANPAC actuary a perfect credit score is required, which - is theoretically impossible!

    If your vehicle is vandalized, each instance of vandalism (mark) is considered a separate occurrence, a separate claim must be filed for each occurrence, the stated deductible applies for each claim. This effectively denies coverage for the damage.

    Licensed & insured home contractors were always over the limit set by the adjuster - unless the contractor was a "recommended" contractor. I was told a repairman who DID NOT have liability insurance, would probably be less expensive.

    Non-OEM parts (or cheapest available) are mandatory on vehicle claims, unless a rider is purchased stating OEM parts may be used. OEM parts must be specified BEFORE the quote. After-market items are not covered unless a rider is purchased. I only found out about this after my claim.

    Anyone considering this company should RUN as fast as possible from this rip-off insurance company. It Is all smiles and roses when they are in "selling" mode, but it is nothing but slaps-to-the-face or kicks-to-the-groin when they are in "pay-out" mode. Buyer beware!

I have filed three claims in seventeen years and was not happy with any of them. Poor customer service and on my last claim they didn't even bother to send anyone out to investigate. STAY AWAY from this company because all they know how to say is Denied. I wasted my money and time staying with them.

    Insurance adjaster is a lier and unprofessional , August, 2018

    Insurance didn't want to pay in advance $3000+ for the carpet installment and had to cancel the installation because didn't have money to pay for the service. Also insurance adjuster was extremely rude and didn't answered my emails and ignored my messages.

    I have never been with an insurance agency that has made me so frustrated. I was in a wreck 2 months ago, and things are still not completely resolved by American National. The requests that they make for me to do on my own should be things that they are fully capable of. I don't have time to get their own work done considering I have a job of my own. I have never been so angry and stressed over auto insurance. Isn't this why I pay them? So they can take care of matters on my behalf? Also not to mention that very useful information they should have told me from the beginning, I was left to find out on my own when I went to the license bureau. I'm dumbfounded by their incompetence and will be going elsewhere.

    Having problems with my cash surrender.
