If you lend your car to your friend whom has an expired drivers license and they get in an accident, your insurance policy may cover it still. Your friend having an expired license is not the same as a revoked or suspended license. Your insurance will require your friends insurance company to pay for the damages first. Once your friends insurance is capped out, then your insurance will be liable for the remaining.
Before you lend your car out to anyone, you must make sure that your insurance policy has a clause to cover another driver that is not listed on your policy. In some instances if you are sick or impaired and someone else drives, they will be covered for being the responsible party. In other instances, the insurance will require them to be listed as a temporary driver, showing proof of a valid drivers license before they will cover any event in your vehicle.
