The house encountered a fire, where we had to remove the debris and perform an asbetsos abatement. We are currently trying to coordinate the house for repairs, but would like to inquire if there would generally be a discrepancy with insurance companies under the claim if we change the original floor plan layout (i.e. changing around where the room, bathroom, kitchen, and living room originally was located on the layout).”

In the event of fire damage to a property, the floor plan layout does not necessarily have to be exactly the same as the original floor plan. However, the insurance company will likely require some form of proof of the original floor plan layout and any changes that were made after the property was built. The insurance company will typically investigate the fire damage claim to determine the cause and extent of the damage. This may involve inspecting the property, reviewing any available documentation, and speaking with witnesses or experts. If the insurance company determines that the floor plan layout has changed since the property was built, they may request additional information, such as:
- Documentation of the original floor plan: The insurance company may request documentation, such as blueprints or building permits, that show the original floor plan layout.
- Documentation of any changes made: If changes were made to the floor plan, the insurance company may request documentation, such as building permits or invoices from contractors, that show what changes were made and when.
- Evidence of the value of the property: If the floor plan has changed, the insurance company may adjust the value of the property based on the current layout and any changes that were made.
