Is American Family a good insurance company?

1 Answer

0 votes

American Family insurance is the third largest mutually held insurance company in the United States. They are primarily represented by independent agents, with 5 subsidiary companies in addition to the parent company. They are the 9th largest home insurance provider and the 10th largest provider of auto insurance.

Financial Rating
A.M. Best, one the country's leading financial ratings institutions, gives American Family an A rating. The company has nearly $16 billion in assets, and over $6.8 billion in revenues. People seeking insurance would be justified in giving consideration to purchasing policies from American Family, and investors have little to worry about but should do further research before making extremely large capital investments.

Customer Satisfaction
Online customer ratings give the company a 16% "very satisfied rating." And while the "very unsatisfied" rating is nearly 52% of those responding, it should be noted that unhappy customers are much more likely to report on experiences online than happy ones, so the actual number of happy customers is probably much higher than their online ratings reveal.

American Family Reviews Company Availability
American Family is licensed to operate in 18 states primarily in the central and western portions of the country. This limited availability is more of an indication of the company's popularity that might be expected, since the company still has the distinction of being the 16th largest property and casualty insurer in the entire country.

The Bottom Line
The American Family insurance group is a large and relatively well-liked company. Despite their limited availability they have still managed to carve out an impressive position in the insurance industry. They are stable, making them a possible source for investors and a suitable company for representing individuals through their diverse insurance offerings. Additionally, they are one of the few insurance companies which also offer consumer loans to qualified applicants.
