Will the insurance company accept pictures of the completed repairs on the house instead of receipts?

0 votes
The hurricane repairs for the roof, the screened porch, and windows were all paid for by the insurance company, but the receipts for the work were lost because my mother ( the owner ) passed away. Now the insurance company is asking for receipts we can't find. Will the insurance company accept detailed pictures of all the work completed, instead of the receipts?

While receipts are undoubtedly the best form of purchase evidence, there are additional ways to validate your insurance claim purchases.

Reviewing the details of your individual insurance policy is the best way to find out the true letter of the law answer, but in many cases insurance companies will reward customers that are acting within the spirit of the law. In most cases, the key to getting purchases related to insurance claims accepted is to build a strong burden of proof.

Pictures may be sufficient and can be accepted by insurance companies if the pictures are clear. Including numerous pictures from multiple angles is advisable.

The best form of picture is one that has specifically includes the serial number in its purview. That serial number is a unique form of identification that gives insurance companies enough to hurdle the burden of proof bar in many cases.

Remember that insurers are often just looking to validate purchases and dissuade potential fraudsters from attempting to take advantage of the claims process. If you are acting in good faith, insurers will almost always work with you to get a fair outcome that will make you whole.
