After my mother’s death, I found 2 Whole Life Insurance Policies on me in her Safety Deposit Box. One was originally issued by Atlantic Life Insurance Company, Richmond Virgina in 1954, and then assumed by Southwestern Life Insurance Company, Dallas Texas, circa 1971. The other was issued by Southland Life Insurance Company, Dallas Texas, in 1954. I’m trying to determine whether these whole life policies are still valid and if they have any cash value.”

If you are trying to determine who is responsible for your Southwestern Whole Life policy, there are five steps you can take:

  1. Contact Southwestern Whole Life Insurance Company: The first step is to contact the company directly and ask about your policy. You can find contact information on their website or on your policy documents. They may be able to provide you with information about the policy and who is responsible for it.
  2. Check your policy documents: Review your policy documents to see if they provide any information about who is responsible for the policy. This may include the policy owner, the insured, or any beneficiaries named in the policy.
  3. Contact the policy owner: If you are not the policy owner, try to locate the person who is. This may be a family member, a former employer, or someone else who purchased the policy on your behalf. They may be able to provide you with information about the policy and who is responsible for it.
  4. Check state records: If you are still unable to determine who is responsible for the policy, you can check state records. Many states have a database of unclaimed property that includes life insurance policies that have not been claimed. You can search these databases to see if your policy is listed and find out who is responsible for it.
  5. Seek legal assistance: If you are still unable to determine who is responsible for your Southwestern Whole Life policy, you may want to seek legal assistance. An attorney who specializes in insurance law can help you navigate the process and determine your options.
Overall, it may take some time and effort to determine who is responsible for your Southwestern Whole Life policy, but by following these steps, you can hopefully find the information you need.
