If you are a former member of the National Guard and your records were lost in a fire, you may still be eligible for USAA membership. USAA has a special program for former National Guard members called the Patriot Program. To qualify for the Patriot Program, you must have served honorably in the National Guard and be able to provide evidence of your service, such as discharge papers or an official letter from the National Guard. If your records were lost in a fire, you should contact the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) to request a replacement copy of your service records. The NPRC can provide you with a copy of your DD-214, which is the most important document you need to prove your military service. If you are unable to obtain a copy of your DD-214 or other service records, USAA may accept other forms of documentation to verify your service, such as pay stubs or orders. It's worth noting that eligibility for USAA membership is generally limited to active and retired military personnel, as well as their immediate family members. However, the Patriot Program provides an exception for former National Guard members who meet certain eligibility requirements. If you are unsure whether you qualify for USAA membership, you can contact the company directly for more information.
