My son got me a car and it is insured under my name but the title and registration is under his name. My car was totaled in a hit and run. Will I have an issue with my insurance company since my name is not on the title and his name is not on the insurance?”

Because the car is registered and insured, you should not have any issues regarding the insurance company. Insurance companies don’t really look at the title of the vehicle in these cases, they just want to make sure your insurance is bailed and that the registration was current at the time of the accident.

The main concern here, is that you are saying it was damaged in a hit and run accident. If you were not in the vehicle at the time, and you have no idea who it was that hit your car & drove off, insurance might take a while to be able to process your claim, however, they will process it and pay for damages granted you have or had at the time, full covarage insurance. If you only have liability, insurance companies won’t pay for the damage of a hit and run accident. There’s separate insurance you can purchase to cover those types of accidents, or to cover uninsured motorists that damage your vehicle. Your best option is to find out what kind of insurance your son had on the vehicle. And go from there.
