Whether your vehicle is used for business or pleasure purposes the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) requires all motor vehicles to have New York State issued automobile liability insurance coverage to obtain registration. Coverage must be maintained the entire length of time that the vehicle is registered.'For-hire' is defined by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles as "the business of carrying or transporting passengers for compensation (directly or indirectly).
