Your insurance company may not cancel their policy during a hurricane watch or before any other any predictable calamity without cause. If you live in an area that is prone to hurricanes you will likely already be paying high premiums due to the expected risk.

While your insurance company does not have the ability to cancel a current policy they could choose to not renew a policy if you are outside of the renewal window and a hurricane is coming through. Because of this, it is important that you either have a provision that allows for you to auto renewal or that you renew on your own well in advance.

An insurance company could also avoid having to pay your repair if you have fallen behind on payments. If you have not paid in more than 30 days, you could technically be in default with your policy. This would potentially mean that the insurance company doesn't have to cover your claims.
