Unfortunately, The National Union Fire Insurance Company of Pittsburgh is one of the insurance companies which did not survive the economic collapse of 2008-2009. By 2010, the company was already in dire straits, and was purchased by the Chartis Group. Existing policies were transferred over to the parent corporation and no further insurance policies are being written under the National Union Fire Insurance Company of Pittsburgh company brand.

Company History
The National Union Fire Insurance Company of Pittsburgh began as a local insurance company providing fire insurance to businesses. The company, rather than expanding into new territories, stuck with the idea that providing exemplary customer service surpassed the need for physical company growth. At the time of their purchase in 2009, the company only serviced Pennsylvania and some surrounding areas.

Products the Company Sold
The National Union Fire Insurance Company of Pittsburgh sold fire, property, and casualty business insurance. The company also sold car and home insurance in their limited area of representation. Since being bought by Chartis, and through them by AIG Insurance, the company first expanded their insurance offerings before closing down and transferring their open policies to the Chartis Group.

What Happened to the Company?
The National Union Fire Insurance Company of Pittsburgh is one of the casualties of the economic downturn of 2008. The company continued operation into 2009, when it was bought by the Chartis Group, a holding company belonging to the AIG Insurance Corporation. In October of 2011, the National Union Fire Insurance Company of Pittsburgh stopped operations, having been completely absorbed into the parent company. The company is still listed as a subsidiary in insurance company ratings, but that listing is not likely to continue past the financial next review.
