It has been OK, but I think that they are difficult to deal with when you have a claim.
I have been with State Farm for at least 25 years. I started with State Farm because of my parents and just stayed with it throughout the years. The current owner of the agency bought this agency from somebody else and I just continued to stay with her because I thought that State Farm was a reputable company. I have had to make several claims over the past seven years and it has been an unpleasant process. I do not blame the agent for this because the claims are handled through a completely different office. However, after my most recent claim, I have decided that I should try somewhere else. I am retired but my rates are still the same. I think that there are better possibilities out there for seniors and I am definitely going to check them out. You have to have auto insurance, but it should be more geared towards individuals and seniors usually deserve lower rates.
The current owner of the agency and the other representatives in her office have always been cordial and usually very helpful if you do have a question. However, I have found that sometimes responses seem to be somewhat evasive especially when it comes to the house insurance. For instance, I do not believe that we are in a flood zone but we have to pay a large amount for flood insurance. I have inquired about this a few times but never got a very satisfactory answer. I take care of my elderly mother and sometimes things can get very hectic and I put off investigating issues like this flood insurance. Since I am retired now I do have more time and plan to get more definite information and some quotes for house insurance as well.
