Good until the very first hiccup, then they completely let me down.
I kind of inherited my agent as he was my mom’s and therefore my first agent when I started driving. State Farm had good rates, offered lots of discount programs/opportunities and generally treated me well. I never had a claim of any kind and my payments were automatically deducted. I never really had any reason to deal with my agent other than our annual meetings to see if my needs were being met. One day they called me and stated that I needed to make a payment by midnight or my policy would lapse. This was odd obviously, and it turned out that my automatic payment would be taken AFTER midnight (by their design or the bank’s – not mine for sure) and if I didn’t make another payment before midnight I would be without insurance. And no, they could not stop the automatic payment, so I essentially had 12 hours to come up with a second insurance payment. I immediately found coverage elsewhere.

My insurance agent is fine, though I really don't speak to him much.
I inherited my mom’s insurance agent when I first started to drive. State Farm is a good company and Bob Lowry is a competent, friendly enough agent. When I was 16 and first starting out, Bob encouraged me to complete a number of programs to lower my premiums, along with applying several discounts due to my mom’s policies at the same address and my good grades in high school. At his suggestion, I actually ended up taking drivers ed after I had my license as it saved me a good chunk of money. I have only had one accident during my time as driver. It was the other driver’s fault and my car was totaled. Bob handled everything perfectly and I have no complaints about the process. Other than that, I don’t communicate with him very often unless I’m making a change to my policy. The only time his office has ever reached out in an apparent attempt to sell me more insurance I just politely declined the appointment. Maybe for other people it may be limited, but this is the exact amount of insurance agent I want in my life. Unless he somehow can’t come up with competitive rates (which has never been the case in over 10 years of periodic rate research), I have no reason to even consider a different agent or company.
